Process For Synthesizing And Controlling The Particle Size And Particle Size Distribution Of A Molecular Sieve

US Patent:
6656447, Dec 2, 2003
Filed:
Jun 28, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/894183
Inventors:
Medhat K. Tannous - Arlington Heights IL
Sonu Marchioretto - Downers Grove IL
Lyle E. Monson - Rolling Meadows IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C01B 3704
US Classification:
423709, 423305, 423306, 423716, 423DIG 24, 423DIG 30
Abstract:
Applicants have developed a continuous process for synthesizing various molecular sieves. The process enables one to control both the particle size and particle size distribution. Any of the molecular sieves represented by the empirical formula on an anhydrous basis: rR O:(Si Al P )O , where R is at least one structure directing agent, ârâ, âxâ, âyâ and âzâ are the mole fractions of R, Si, Al and P respectively, can be prepared using this process. The process involves continuously adding separate streams comprising reactive sources of at least each framework element into a continuous crystallization reactor. Either interstage backmixing is introduced or the number of stages is adjusted in order to control particle size.

Pyrolysis Methods, Catalysts, And Apparatuses For Treating And/Or Detecting Gas Contaminants

US Patent:
2011031, Dec 29, 2011
Filed:
Jun 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/824873
Inventors:
Lyle E. MONSON - Schaumburg IL, US
Dean E. RENDE - Arlington Heights IL, US
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
B01D 53/68
H01L 21/461
US Classification:
438706, 423240 R, 423240 S, 422173, 257E21219
Abstract:
Processes for treating gas streams contaminated with fluorine-containing compounds, in addition to apparatuses for such treatment processes that may also be used to monitor the emission of these compounds, are disclosed. In the processes and apparatuses, catalytic conversion (pyrolysis) one or more fluorine-containing contaminants (e.g., perfluorocarbon) in the gas stream is carried out using a catalyst comprising tungstated zirconia or sulfated zirconia. The catalysts exhibit exceptional responsiveness, recovery, and/or activity, compared to conventional catalysts, for this purpose.

Direct Carbonylation Of Paraffins Using An Ionic Liquid Catalyst

US Patent:
6288281, Sep 11, 2001
Filed:
Nov 16, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/714704
Inventors:
Laszlo T. Nemeth - Palatine IL
Jeffery C. Bricker - Buffalo Grove IL
Jennifer S. Holmgren - Bloomingdale IL
Lyle E. Monson - Rolling Meadows IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C07C 4549
US Classification:
568342
Abstract:
A process for the carbonylation of saturated hydrocarbons to give an oxygenated saturated hydrocarbon is disclosed and claimed. The process involves using an acidic ionic liquid catalyst to catalyze the carbon monoxide addition to the saturated hydrocarbon at reaction conditions to form an oxygenate. The acidic ionic liquid comprises a Lewis or Bronsted acid in combination with a quaternary nitrogen-containing compound. A specific example is a mixture of aluminum chloride and n-butylpyridinium chloride.

Process For Synthesizing And Controlling The Particle Size And Particle Size Distribution Of A Molecular Sieve

US Patent:
5989518, Nov 23, 1999
Filed:
Dec 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/222109
Inventors:
Medhat Khalil Tannous - Arlington Heights IL
Sonu Marchioretto - Downers Grove IL
Lyle Edward Monson - Rolling Meadows IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C01B 3922
C01B 3924
C01B 3914
C01B 3704
US Classification:
423717
Abstract:
Applicants have developed a continuous process for synthesizing various molecular sieves. The process enables one to control both the particle size and particle size distribution. Any of the molecular sieves represented by the empirical formula on an anhydrous basis: rR. sub. 2 O:(Si. sub. x Al. sub. y P. sub. z)O. sub. 2, where R is at least one templating agent, "r" "x" "y" and "z" are the mole fractions of R, Si, Al and P respectively, can be prepared using this process. The process involves continuously adding reactive sources of the desired components along with a structure directing agent into a continuous crystallization reactor. Either interstage backmixing is introduced or the number of stages is adjusted in order to control particle size. Finally, one way to control particle size distribution is to split the product stream into at least two streams and flowing each stream to a wet miller operated at different severity and then reblending to obtain at least a bimodal distribution.
