Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B05C001/00
US Classification:
118244, 118249, 118262, 118 46, 427428, 347101
Abstract:
A coating apparatus for applying a coating liquid to a printing substrate. The coating apparatus has a rotatable first roll and a rotatable second roll, each having a surface energy. The second roll is positioned adjacent to the first roll and defines with the first roll a first nip through which the printing substrate passes A metering device is provided for applying a substantially uniform layer of coating liquid onto the second roll. The second roll in turn transfers the coating liquid to the printing substrate. The surface energy of the second roll is greater than the surface energy of the coating liquid. In one embodiment, the metering device includes a rotatable third roll and a doctor blade contacting the third roll, each having a surface energy. The surface energy of at least a portion of either or both the third roll and doctor blade is less than the surface energy of the coating liquid.

Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B41J 2/195
US Classification:
347 7, 347 86, 347 99
Abstract:
An apparatus for the management of the fluid level in a media coating system. In one embodiment, the apparatus has a supply item for the storage of a media coating fluid and an applicator having a trough for receiving the media coating fluid from the supply item. The apparatus utilizes a fluid level detection sensor that is located within the applicator to measure whether the media coating fluid level within the trough of the applicator is either above or below a threshold position and to generates an output signal. The apparatus has a controller for receiving the output signal and controlling delivery of the media coating fluid from the supply item to the applicator.

Coating Apparatus For Use In An Ink Jet Printer

US Patent:
6183079, Feb 6, 2001
Filed:
Jun 11, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/096306
Inventors:
Alexander Douglas Meade - Lexington KY
Michael Wesley Baskette - Lexington KY
David Clay Blaine - Lexington KY
Jeffrey Lynn Richie - Lexington KY
Philip Jerome Heink - Lexington KY
Michael Craig Leemhuis - Nicholasville KY
David Starling MacMillan - Winchester KY
Mark Stephen Weisman - Lexington KY
Bradley Leonard Beach - Lexington KY
Peter Eric Wallin - Lexington KY
Ronald Willard Baker - Versailles KY
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B41J 201
US Classification:
347101
Abstract:
An ink jet printer is provided comprising a housing, an ink jet printing apparatus and a coating apparatus. The ink jet printing apparatus is located within the housing and includes an ink jet printing device capable of ejecting ink droplets onto a first side of a printing substrate which moves through the housing along a printing substrate feed path. The coating apparatus is positioned along the printing substrate feed path and spaced from the printing device. The coating apparatus applies a substantially uniform layer of coating material onto at least a portion of the first side of the printing substrate.

Job Offset Assembly

US Patent:
6053494, Apr 25, 2000
Filed:
Aug 4, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/905658
Inventors:
Michael Wesley Baskette - Lexington KY
Michael Earl Kennedy - Lexington KY
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B65H 916
US Classification:
271251
Abstract:
A job offset assembly to separate into multiple stacks the output from a copier, printer or the like, includes a platform upon which a plurality of offset assemblies are rotatably mounted, each offset assembly including a skew roller which turns about an axis that, when the offset assemblies are rotated, is not parallel to the axis about which a drive roller associated with the skew roller turns. A gear or rack-and-pinion type offset actuation system enables the offset assemblies to rotate repeatedly back and forth between predetermined positions, so that as media encounters the skew rollers it is directed against a reference edge and into an output stack associated with the offset assembly position.

Modular Output Stackers For Printers

US Patent:
5810353, Sep 22, 1998
Filed:
May 12, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/854318
Inventors:
Michael Wesley Baskette - Lexington KY
Billy Carl Chappel - Mt. Sterling KY
Randall Steven Gall - Lexington KY
Michael Earl Kennedy - Lexington KY
Michael Craig Leemhuis - Nicholasville KY
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
B65H 3910
B65H 2900
US Classification:
271305
Abstract:
A printer has one or more stacked sheet output units on top of it for increasing the printer's output capacity. Each unit includes a housing having a diverter as does the printer. The position of each diverter is controlled by a diverter/drive mechanism in the unit stacked on top of it. In its first position, the diverter of the printer or the unit diverts a fed sheet from a substantially vertical path therein to a sheet receiving area. In its second position, the diverter allows the fed sheet to be advanced by driven rolls to the unit thereabove. The feed rolls of a unit are driven only when the diverter in each of the printer and in any unit therebeneath are in the second position.
