US Classification:
526240, 526120, 526243
Abstract:
This invention pertains to olefins having a terminally disposed fluorocyclobutyl ring bearing a sulfonyl, sulfonic acid or sulfonate salt, a process for the production thereof, and polymers, especially ionomers, formed therefrom. The invention further pertains to ionically conductive compositions formed by the combination of a liquid and the ionomer of the invention, and electrochemical devices such as electrodes, sensors, and solid polymer electrolytes comprising those conductive compositions. The polymers of the invention arc useful in the formation of films and coatings with high chemical resistance and good physical properties. The ionomers of the invention are useful in electrochemical applications, particularly in lithium batteries. The polymeric compositions of the invention are useful for strong acid catalysis, such as Friedel-Crafts alkylation.

Fluorosulfates Of Hexafluoroisobutylene And Its Higher Homologs And Their Derivatives

US Patent:
7301059, Nov 27, 2007
Filed:
Mar 22, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/726449
Inventors:
Victor Filippovich Cherstkov - Moscow, RU
Nina Ivanova Delyagina - Moscow, RU
Viacheslav A. Petrov - Hockessin DE, US
Weiming Qiu - Wilmington DE, US
Paul R. Resnick - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
C07C 19/08
C07C 21/18
C07C 23/00
US Classification:
570124
Abstract:
Hexafluoroisobutylene and its higher homologs are easily reacted with SOto give fluorosulfates of the formula CH═C(R)CFOSOF, wherein R is a linear branched or cyclic fluoroalkyl group comprised of 1 to 10 carbon atoms and may contain ether oxygen. These compounds react under mild conditions with many nucleophiles to give CH═C(R)CFX, where X is derived from the nucleophile. This reaction provides a route to many substituted hexafluoroisobutylenes, which copolymerize easily with other fluoro- and hydrocarbon monomers such as vinylidene fluoride and ethylene.

Methods Using Fluorosulfones For Extinguishing Fire, Preventing Fire, And Reducing Or Eliminating The Flammability Of A Flammable Working Fluid

Mario Nappa - Newark, DE
Valliyur Rao - Wilmington, DE
Paul Resnick - Cary NC, US
International Classification:
A62D001/00
US Classification:
252002000
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of using fluorosulfones for i) extinguishing fire by applying to the fire such a fluorosulfone, ii) preventing fire in an air-containing enclosed area containing combustible materials by introducing into the area such a fluorosulfone and maintaining the fluorosulfone in an amount sufficient to suppress combustion of combustible materials in the enclosed area, and iii) reducing or eliminating the flammability of a flammable working fluid, by mixing between about 0.1 to about 99 percent by weight of such a fluorosulfone with the flammable working fluid.
