Fugitive Color Fire Retardant Composition For Aerial Application

US Patent:
6395200, May 28, 2002
Filed:
Dec 18, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/740210
Inventors:
Robert L. Crouch - Phoenix AZ
Darla D. Burchert - Surprise AZ
Assignee:
Fire-Trol Holdings, L.L.C. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
C09K 2102
US Classification:
252603, 252601
Abstract:
In a fugitive color fire retardant composition, the colorant initially colors the composition to a hue which contrasts with the hue of ground vegetation. A non-fugitive component is included in the colorant, in an amount sufficient to provide improved aerial visibility when the composition is first aerially applied to the vegetation. However, the amount of non-fugitive pigment is less than an amount which would prevent the composition from fading after application to an acceptable neutral hue.

Corrosion Inhibitor Mixture For Ammonium Sulfate Fire-Retardant Compositions And Method For Inhibiting Corrosivity Of Such Compositions

US Patent:
4176071, Nov 27, 1979
Filed:
Jun 26, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/919166
Inventors:
Robert L. Crouch - Phoenix AZ
Assignee:
Early California Industries, Inc. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
C09K 328
US Classification:
252 81
Abstract:
A corrosion inhibitor mixture for ammonium sulfate-based fire-retardant compositions includes a water-soluble cyanide compound and ammonium phosphate.

Method For Inhibiting Fatigue Of Aluminum

US Patent:
4261766, Apr 14, 1981
Filed:
Jun 13, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/159128
Inventors:
Robert L. Crouch - Phoenix AZ
Assignee:
Early California Industries, Inc. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
C23F 900
US Classification:
148 627
Abstract:
A method of inhibiting the fatigue of aluminum comprising the steps of immersing aluminum in an aqueous solution of a water soluble cyanide compound at room temperature and continuously maintaining the aluminum in contact with the aqueous solution. The aqueous solution is substantially free of chromium.

Fire Suppressants And Methods Of Manufacture And Use Thereof

US Patent:
6019176, Feb 1, 2000
Filed:
Jun 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/931907
Inventors:
Robert L. Crouch - Phoenix AZ
Assignee:
Fire-Trol Holdings, L.L.C. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
A62D 100
US Classification:
169 46
Abstract:
This invention relates to fire suppressant compositions and methods of preparing and using such compositions. The compositions consist of water, at least about 5% by weight of a fire retardant salt, which includes at least 1. 5% by weight of ammonium thiosulfate. These compositions may contain other optional functional components such as corrosion inhibitors, suspending agents, coloring agents, antimicrobials and stabilizers.

Stabilized, Corrosion-Inhibited Fire Retardant Compositions And Methods

US Patent:
5958117, Sep 28, 1999
Filed:
Apr 3, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/051316
Inventors:
Robert L. Crouch - Phoenix AZ
Christine Chang - Hsin-Chu, TW
Assignee:
Fire-Trol Holdings, L.L.C. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
A62D 100
US Classification:
106 1811
Abstract:
A gum-thickened fire retardant composition with improved stability and/or corrosion resistance contains a fire retardant salt, a gum thickener, an aqueous liquid carrier and at least one non-toxic water-soluble additive which is at least one carboxylic acid or salt thereof, having the structural formula ##STR1## wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted carbon chain containing conjugated unsaturation, and X is hydrogen or a metal. The additive component is present in an amount effective to improve the stability of said composition and/or reduce the corrosivity of the composition to iron. Preferred compositions containing the combination of at least one compound in which R is a phenyl group, especially sodium benzoate, and at least one compound in which R is a carbon chain containing unconjugated unsaturation, especially sorbic acid.
