Spatial Compounding With Ultrasonic Doppler Signal Information

US Patent:
6390980, May 21, 2002
Filed:
Nov 5, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/435118
Inventors:
Roy B. Peterson - Seattle WA
Daniel C. Schmiesing - Granite Falls WA
Thanasis Loupas - Athens, GR
Assignee:
ATL Ultrasound, Inc. - Bothell WA
International Classification:
A61B 800
US Classification:
600443, 600447
Abstract:
An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system and method are described which perform spatial compounding of tissue motion or flow information. The resultant images not only reduce speckle artifacts, but also reduce dropout caused by the angular dependence of Doppler information. Compound images may be formed using both B mode and Doppler information acquired in a time interleaved manner, either one or both of which may be spatially compounded. The techniques of the present invention may be employed to reduce multiline artifacts and to produce real time compound images at high frame rates of display.

Extended Field Of View Ultrasonic Diagnostic Imaging

US Patent:
6442289, Aug 27, 2002
Filed:
Jun 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/345244
Inventors:
Lars Jonas Olsson - Woodinville WA
Roy B. Peterson - Seattle WA
Thomas Martin Wissler - Kenmore WA
Assignee:
Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. - Eindhoven
International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
382128, 73 182, 600437
Abstract:
An extended field of view image is formed by combining a plurality of spatially offset ultrasonic images which have been spatially aligned. Images which are to be aligned are processed to produce two sets of corresponding images of progressively lower resolution. The spatial alignment is performed by comparing images of the same resolution level from each set, and progressing from comparison of the lowest resolution images to comparison of the highest. Only prominent feature areas of the images are used in the comparison to improve alignment reliability and to reduce computational needs. As each pair of images is compared, the result of the comparison is used to pre-align the images of the next resolution level. Results are checked and refined against boundary conditions and by gradient refinement.

Dual Beamformer Ultrasound System For 2D And 3D Imaging

US Patent:
6602194, Aug 5, 2003
Filed:
Aug 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/927097
Inventors:
David N. Roundhill - Woodinville WA
Roy B. Peterson - Seattle WA
Assignee:
Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. - Eindhoven
International Classification:
A61B 800
US Classification:
600443
Abstract:
An ultrasound system which performs two dimensional imaging is upgradeable to a system which also performs three dimensional ultrasonic imaging. The ultrasound system contains space in which an optional 3D beamformer may be installed to provide the ultrasound system with three dimensional imaging capability. When the 3D beamformer is installed a scanhead select module connects one of a plurality of scanhead connectors to the proper beamformer for the imaging procedure commanded by the user.

Segmentation Tool For Identifying Flow Regions In An Image System

US Patent:
8094893, Jan 10, 2012
Filed:
Nov 13, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/536642
Inventors:
David N. Roundhill - Woodinville WA, US
Roy B. Peterson - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. - Eindhoven
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382128, 600443, 600453, 600454, 600407
Abstract:
An ultrasound system and method that identify flow regions within a volume. The system comprises: a survey system for collecting motion data from a target image; a segmentation system for mapping a region of flow within the image based on the motion data; and a flow acquisition system that automatically limits the collection of flow image data within the image to the region of flow.

Ultrasonic Diagnostic Imaging Devices With Fuel Cell Energy Source

US Patent:
2004018, Sep 16, 2004
Filed:
Mar 2, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/791509
Inventors:
Roy Peterson - Seattle WA, US
Lauren Pflugrath - Seattle WA, US
David Roundhill - Woodinville WA, US
International Classification:
A61B008/14
US Classification:
600/459000
Abstract:
Ultrasonic diagnostic imaging devices are powered by fuel cells providing the continuous production of electrical energy by the direct electrochemical conversion of a hydrogen-based fuel into a flow of current. The ultrasound devices described comprise wireless transducer probes, handheld ultrasound systems, and cart-borne or tabletop ultrasound systems. The fuel for the fuel cells is contained in replaceable containers such as cartridges or ampules. When the fuel is exhausted, the fuel cells are immediately returned to a fully operating condition by replacing the expended unit with a full cartridge or ampule.

Ultrasonic Shear Wave Imaging With Focused Scanline Beamforming

US Patent:
2013013, May 23, 2013
Filed:
Nov 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
13/511307
Inventors:
Roy Beck Peterson - Seattle WA, US
Yan Shi - White Plains NY, US
Hua Xie - Ossining NY, US
Jean-Luc Robert - White Planins NY, US
Vijay Shamdasani - Seattle WA, US
Robert Randall Entrekin - Kirkland WA, US
Anna Teresa Fernandez - Falls Church VA, US
Assignee:
KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V. - EINDHOVEN
International Classification:
A61B 8/08
A61B 8/00
A61B 8/14
US Classification:
600438
Abstract:
An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system produces an image of shear wave velocities by transmitting push pulses to generate shear waves. A plurality of tracking lines are transmitted and echoes received by a focusing beamformer adjacent to the location of the push pulses. The tracking lines are sampled in a time-interleaved manner. The echo data acquired along each tracking line is processed to determine the time of peak tissue displacement caused by the shear waves at points along the tracking line, and the times of peaks at adjacent tracking lines compared to compute a local shear wave velocity. The resultant map of shear wave velocity values is color-coded and displayed over an anatomical image of the region of interest.

Ultrasonic Acoustic Radiation Force Excitation For Ultrasonic Material Property Measurement And Imaging

US Patent:
2014000, Jan 2, 2014
Filed:
Dec 2, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/992281
Inventors:
John Douglas Fraser - Woodinville WA, US
Roy Peterson - Seattle WA, US
Jean-Luc Robert - White Plains NY, US
Vijay Shamdasani - Seattle WA, US
Hua XIE - Ossining NY, US
Assignee:
KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V. - EINDHOVEN
International Classification:
A61B 8/00
A61B 8/08
US Classification:
600447
Abstract:
An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system for shear wave measurement transmits push pulses in the form of a sheet of energy. The sheet of energy produces a shear wavefront which is a plane wave, which does not suffer from the 1/R radial dissipation of push pulse force as does a conventional push pulse generated along a single push pulse vector. The sheet of energy can be planar, curved, or in some other two or three dimensional shape. A curved sheet of energy can produce a shear wave source which focuses into a thin line, which increases the resolution and sensitivity of the measuring techniques used to detect the shear wave effect.

Extended Field Of View Ultrasonic Diagnostic Imaging With Image Reacquisition

Inventors:
Roy B. Peterson - Seattle WA
Thomas Martin Wissler - Kenmore WA
Lars Jonas Olsson - Woodinville WA
Assignee:
ATL Ultrasound - Bothell WA
International Classification:
A61B 800
US Classification:
