I was nominated and selected as the Keynote Speaker for the First Annual ISU Leadership Conference. I spoke to over 150 ISU students from a variety of disciplines. "Blake Hanson, junior in Political Science, served as the student keynote speaker. He spoke about his leadership experiences on campus and he inspired students to get involved. His talk focused on initiative, action and perseverance as three key leadership skills."

I advanced to the final round of this competition out of over 60 competitors. As a result, I had the honor of arguing in front of the Iowa Court of Appeals during my first semester in law school.

The FYOA is an appellate advocacy competition, which is participated in by every student at the law school. Each student writes a brief for one side of the issue, and then argues both sides of the problem in back to back weeks. The top 14 students then compete in the finals the following week, in which they are given an entirely different problem to argue.
