Abstract:
A graphical handwriting recognition user interface includes a display, one or more areas designated on said display for enabling entry of handwritten information using a stylus, and an image of a character being displayed within the one or more areas designated for entering the handwritten information, the image depicting a form of the handwritten information to be entered. The image of the character is displayed for a predetermined period of time. The image of the character is displayed on the display using a low contrast ratio, and is displayed on the display in a manner depicting the character being entered, thereby rendering animation to the image of the character being displayed.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to data entry keys () of a keypad entry system for entry of Korean text to a portable electronic device (). The data entry keys include ten or more keys arranged in an ordered array in which each key being associated with a numeric digit (keys “1” through “9” and “0”), a phonetic consonant (through ) and a phonetic vowel (through ). Preferably, the phonetic consonants and the phonetic vowels are Korean Jamos symbols used to generate Korean Hangul characters. All keys of the data entry keys include a non-aspiration consonant (), and four keys of the data entry keys include an aspiration consonant () in addition to the non-aspiration consonant. The non-aspiration and aspiration consonants are grouped based on similarity in pronunciation.

Abstract:
A data entry apparatus (10) receives a first character key from a keypad (12). A set of characters associated with the first character key is displayed. A second character key from the keypad (12) is received, wherein a second set of characters is associated with the second character key. A character from the first set of characters is combined with a character from the second set of characters. A set of alternative n-grams is displayed, derived from the step of combining, in descending order based on a probability of frequency of use in a given language. When an alternative n-gram is detected as being actively highlighted, the n-gram is locked to create a locked n-gram and characters associated with subsequent character keys vary in their combinations with respect to the locked n-gram.
