The present invention integrates Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) and computer network technologies to provide telephone services. The system of the present invention comprises a gateway serving as an interface between a service control point (SCP) of an AIN and a computer network. The computer network is preferably the Internet. The SCP obtains call routing instructions from the subscriber of the present invention through a link during a communication session between the subscriber and the computer network. A trigger is provisioned on a subscriber's line. When a call for a telephone line having the provisioned trigger is detected at a service switching point (SSP), a query is launched to the SCP. A call processing request query comprising calling party information is provided to the gateway. The gateway obtains a response from the computer network containing call processing instructions.

A static route is created in the subscribers computer to establish a continuous logical connection between the subscribers computer and a continuous service provider to provide the subscriber with continuous services. Simultaneously, subscribers can obtain services offered by temporary service providers over the network. To obtain these services, the system establishes a temporary logical connection between the user and the temporary service provider. The temporary logical connection is destroyed when the user has completed using the desired services of the temporary service provider. To increase security, the continuous service provider is not directly connected to systems not controlled by the continuous service provider, such as the Internet. However, where such security concerns are not relevant, the continuous service provider can be connected to such systems.

A method and apparatus for providing a masked short message service in a wireless network are disclosed. For example, the method receives a message from a first endpoint device directed to a second endpoint device, wherein the message indicates that the message is a masked short message service message, and forwards the masked short message service message with a code towards the second endpoint device. In one example, the second endpoint device parses the message and executes instructions contained therein, e.g., for sending a regular SMS with content derived from masked SMS, making a call, playing music, finding location by invoking an API, sending a file or a picture and any other functions that the second endpoint device may be capable of doing. The masked short message service provides a method for remotely controlling a 2G/3G mobile device through a computer or another mobile device.
