Method And Apparatus For Temporary Mapping Of Executable Program Segments

US Patent:
2007023, Oct 4, 2007
Filed:
Apr 4, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/397844
Inventors:
Adam Litke - Rochester MN, US
International Classification:
G06F 12/00
US Classification:
711202000
Abstract:
A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer usable code are provided for managing memory use for program segments in an executable program. The process copies a set of identified executable program segments associated with the executable program to a set of page segments in a memory space. The process unmaps the set of identified executable program segments and the set of page segments. The process then remaps the set of page segments to a source memory location associated with the set of identified executable program segments.

Managing Virtual-Machine Image Cloning

US Patent:
2019031, Oct 10, 2019
Filed:
Apr 9, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/948614
Inventors:
- Raleigh NC, US
Adam Gerard Litke - Bethel Park PA, US
Fabian Deutsch - Thedinghausen, DE
International Classification:
G06F 3/06
G06F 9/455
Abstract:
Cloning of virtual-machine images can be managed. For example, a computing device can copy a segment of a virtual-machine image stored in a second storage device to a first storage device in response to receiving a first read request for the segment from a virtual machine. The first storage device may be capable of responding to read requests from the virtual machine with less latency than the second storage device. The computing device can also update a log to indicate that the segment is stored on the first storage device. Thereafter, the computing device can receive a second read request for the segment. In response, the computing device can determine that the segment is stored in the first storage device using the log, and provide the segment by obtaining the segment from the first storage device.

Failure Resistent Volume Creation In A Shared Storage Environment

US Patent:
2017037, Dec 28, 2017
Filed:
Jun 23, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/190482
Inventors:
- Raanana, IL
Adam Gerard Litke - Bethel Park PA, US
Nir Soffer - Raanana, IL
International Classification:
G06F 3/06
G06F 9/455
Abstract:
Systems and methods for data storage management technology that use task identifiers to manage tasks and ensure storage modifications occur without unnecessary task duplication. An example method may comprise: generating a task identifier on a first device; transmitting a request comprising the task identifier to create a task on a second device, the task being associated with the task identifier and comprising the allocation of a data storage portion on a shared storage; determining a reply to the task is missing; and in response to determining the reply is missing, detecting whether the task was created on the second device.
