Additional aspects of the present subject matter are directed to a method comprising forming a disinfection composition by contacting an organic material with a non-thermal plasma, wherein the disinfection composition is a liquid. A further aspect of the present subject matter is directed to a disinfection composition comprising an organic material contacted by a non-thermal plasma, wherein the disinfection composition is a liquid.

Non-Thermal Plasma Cleaning Of Dirty Synthesis Gas

US Patent:
2016032, Nov 10, 2016
Filed:
Dec 9, 2014
Appl. No.:
15/109244
Inventors:
- Philadelphia PA, US
Gary NIRENBERG - Hainesport NJ, US
Alexander RABINOVICH - Cherry Hill NJ, US
Evan CHERNETS - Philadelphia PA, US
Assignee:
Drexel University - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C01B 3/34
H05H 1/48
C01B 3/50
B01J 19/08
B01J 7/00
Abstract:
The inventions described herein are directed to technologies for reforming high temperature feedstreams into clean synthesis gas, more particularly, reactor configurations and methods for reforming pyrogas using non-thermal plasmas. One embodiment provides a plasma reactor comprising: (a) a substantially cylindrical reactor wall having a first closed proximal end and a second open distal end, wherein at least a portion of said wall is configured to comprise a first electrode; and (b) a second elongated electrode electrically separated from the first electrode by an electrical insulator, said electric insulator forming either part or all of the first closed end of the reactor or positioned proximate thereto; and configured to be capable of generating and maintaining a glid ing arc plasma discharge within a zone in said reactor.

Gliding Arc Plasmatron Reactor With Reverse Vortex For The Conversion Of Hydrocarbon Fuel Into Synthesis Gas

US Patent:
2016019, Jul 7, 2016
Filed:
Feb 18, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/637168
Inventors:
Alexander Rabinovich - Cherry Hill NJ, US
Michael Gallagher - Philadelphia PA, US
Alexander Fridman - Philadelphia PA, US
Valentina Polevich - Philadelphia PA, US
Alexander F. Gutsol - San Ramon CA, US
International Classification:
C01B 3/36
C10J 3/72
C10J 3/48
B01J 19/08
Abstract:
A reactor for reforming a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, and associated processes and systems, are described herein. In one example, a two stage process is disclosed in which a first reactor is coupled to a second stage reactor having a reaction volume greater than the first reactor. In the first reactor, the liquid hydrocarbon fuel is partially reformed and thereafter is inputted into the second stage reactor for complete partial oxidation. The reaction product is at last partially synthesis gas, a mixture of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, as well as other low hydrocarbons such as methane, ethylene, ethane, and acetylene. The low hydrocarbons can be reformed further in a solid oxide fuel cell. A portion of the gaseous, rotating contents of the second stage reactor may be input into the first reactor to help generate and sustain rotation within the first reactor.
