Autonomous Vehicle That Comprises Ultrasonic Sensors

US Patent:
2022036, Nov 17, 2022
Filed:
May 12, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/319044
Inventors:
- San Francisco CA, US
Amanda Lind - Brooklyn NY, US
International Classification:
G01S 15/931
G01S 15/42
Abstract:
An autonomous vehicle includes a first ultrasonic sensor and a second ultrasonic sensor that is included in a daisy chain with the first ultrasonic sensor, wherein the first ultrasonic sensor is electrically connected to the second ultrasonic sensor in the daisy chain by way of a twisted pair wire. The autonomous vehicle further includes an electronic control unit (ECU) for the first ultrasonic sensor and the second ultrasonic sensor, the ECU is included in the daisy chain with the first ultrasonic sensor and the second ultrasonic sensor, wherein the ECU is electrically connected to the first ultrasonic sensor and the second ultrasonic sensor by way of the twisted pair wire, and further wherein the ECU is in bidirectional communication with the first ultrasonic sensor and the second ultrasonic sensor by way of differential signaling over the twisted pair wire.

Method For Robotic Vehicle Communication With An External Environment Via Acoustic Beam Forming

US Patent:
2018015, Jun 7, 2018
Filed:
Dec 19, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/846905
Inventors:
- Menlo Park CA, US
Jesse Sol Levinson - Redwood City CA, US
Amanda Blair Lind - San Francisco CA, US
International Classification:
B60Q 9/00
G10K 11/26
G05D 1/00
Abstract:
Systems and methods implemented in algorithms, software, firmware, logic, or circuitry may be configured to process data to determine whether an object external to an autonomous vehicle is a person (e.g., such as a pedestrian) or other classification (e.g., such as a vehicle), and may be further configured to determine a position of the person relative to the autonomous vehicle. Logic may be configured to direct acoustic energy (e.g., via vehicular acoustic beam-forming) to an object external to the autonomous vehicle as an audible acoustic alert. The vehicle-related acoustic beam may be directed to a driver in another vehicle. Logic may be configured to track the motion of external objects, such as a pedestrian crossing from one side of the street to the other, and may correspondingly steer the direction of the vehicle-related acoustic beam(s) to track the person's movement.

Robotic Vehicle Active Safety Systems And Methods

US Patent:
2017029, Oct 19, 2017
Filed:
Mar 28, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/471209
Inventors:
- Menlo Park CA, US
Jesse Sol Levinson - Redwood City CA, US
Amanda Blair Lind - San Francisco CA, US
International Classification:
B60W 30/09
B60W 30/095
Abstract:
Systems and methods implemented in algorithms, software, firmware, logic, or circuitry may be configured to process data and sensory input to determine whether an object external to an autonomous vehicle (e.g., another vehicle, a pedestrian, road debris, a bicyclist, etc.) may be a potential collision threat to the autonomous vehicle. The autonomous vehicle may be configured to implement active safety measures to avoid the potential collision and/or mitigate the impact of an actual collision to passengers in the autonomous vehicle and/or to the autonomous vehicle itself. Interior safety systems, exterior safety systems, a drive system or some combination of those systems may be activated to implement active safety measures in the autonomous vehicle.
