Marker Device And Method Of Deploying A Cavity Marker Using A Surgical Biopsy Device

US Patent:
7465279, Dec 16, 2008
Filed:
Mar 31, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/815004
Inventors:
Andrew T. Beckman - Cincinnati OH, US
Rick D. Applegate - Florence KY, US
Michael E. Boehm - Cincinnati OH, US
William A. Garrison - Springdale OH, US
Douglas N. Ladd - Cincinnati OH, US
Assignee:
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61B 10/00
US Classification:
600566, 600567, 606170
Abstract:
A biopsy marker introduction assembly is configured for introduction through a specimen retrieval recess into a probe cutter lumen of a handheld breast biopsy handle. Advancing the cutter causes an extending deployment rod to distally translate within an introducer tube of the introduction assembly, pushing a biopsy marker out of a distal end of the probe at a surgical biopsy site. Thereby, the surgeon is able to position the probe and effect deployment of the marker even if using the other hand to position an imaging device such as an ultrasonic transceiver.

William J. White - West Chester OH, US
Andrew T. Beckman - Cincinnati OH, US
Assignee:
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61B 1/06
US Classification:
600184
Abstract:
A seal assembly for permitting hand assisted laparoscopic procedures includes a seal cap having a seal positioned within a housing. The housing includes a lower seal ring having a track which supports an upper seal ring for relative rotational motion, wherein the seal is supported between the upper seal ring and the lower seal ring for rotation between an open orientation and a closed orientation. The track includes an inner upstanding annular wall and an outer upstanding annular wall connected by a base member. A ratchet mechanism controls motion of the upper seal ring relative to the lower seal ring. The ratchet mechanism includes a ratchet arm oriented to engage a ratchet surface and the ratchet surface is positioned between the inner upstanding annular wall and the outer upstanding annular wall.

Fully Automated Iris Seal For Hand Assisted Laparoscopic Surgical Procedures

US Patent:
7819800, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Dec 15, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/611193
Inventors:
Andrew T. Beckman - Cincinnati OH, US
Paul T. Franer - Cincinnati OH, US
Michael D. Cronin - Cincinnati OH, US
Assignee:
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61B 1/32
US Classification:
600208, 600201, 600204
Abstract:
A laparoscopic device assembly provides a tubular diaphragm twist seal that responds to a slight rotation of an actuating ring in a first direction by coupling a motor spring power assisted rotation of a bottom circumference of the twist seal achieves a pneumatic seal in an adjustable access channel defined by the state of the twist seal for maintaining an insufflated body cavity for a hand assisted laparoscopic surgical procedure. A slight rotation of the actuating ring in an opposite second direction releases compression spring energy and energy in the twisted state of the twist seal so that an upper circumference of the twist seal is allowed to open the adjustable access channel.

Biopsy Device With Replaceable Probe And Incorporating Vibration Insertion Assist And Static Vacuum Source Sample Stacking Retrieval
