Large Scale Document Generation

US Patent:
2012011, May 10, 2012
Filed:
Nov 8, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/292009
Inventors:
Andrew Inglis - Brighton MA, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
715255
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for large scale document generation. A method includes receiving edits made on a document by one or more contributors, receiving votes taken by the one or more contributors to decide which edits will create a new version of the document, reducing an overall edits made by the one or more contributors as packages, collecting the one or more contributors' personal characteristics and positive or negative attitudes towards the document details and displays each contributor's personal characteristics and positive or negative attitudes towards the document details so that it is known by all of the contributors how voted-in edits will change a support level of all contributors, merging voted-on packages into a new version of the document so that non-conflicting packages are included into the new version of the document according to a process that maximizes the intent of the voting, and storing the document in multiple languages at the same time by automatically and/or manually translating edits that are made in given languages to all the other supported languages.

Glass-Panel Lithium-6 Neutron Detector

US Patent:
2014007, Mar 20, 2014
Filed:
Mar 15, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/833420
Inventors:
Andrew Inglis - Brighton MA, US
Hidefumi Tomita - Brookline MA, US
Assignee:
TRUSTEES OF BOSTON UNIVERSITY - Boston MA
International Classification:
G01T 3/00
US Classification:
250389
Abstract:
A thermal neutron detector includes a planar detector housing having two glass panels spaced apart by a gas-tight seal defining a detection chamber including an inert detection gas and lithium foils adhered to inner surfaces of the glass panel(s). The lithium foils emit alpha particles and tritons in response to incident thermal neutrons, and the inert detection gas is ionized by the particles to generate drift electrons. A planar array of detection wires is spaced apart from the lithium foils and extends outside the detection chamber. Electronic bias applies a field voltage between the wires and the lithium foils to establish a drift electric field in the detection chamber effective to attract the drift electrons to the wires and provide a large electric field near the anode wires to cause electron multiplication near the wire resulting in large numbers of electrons and positive ions for each initial electron. Detection circuitry detects electric signals in wires generated by the drift of positive ions away from the wires and interpret the electrical signals as incidence of thermal neutrons on the detector.

Direction Sensitive Neutron Detector

US Patent:
2017000, Jan 5, 2017
Filed:
Sep 29, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/893221
Inventors:
Steven Ahlen - Wellesley MA, US
Peter Fisher - Cambridge MA, US
Denis Dujmic - Arlington MA, US
Hermann F. Wellenstein - Waltham MA, US
Andrew Inglis - Brighton MA, US
Assignee:
TRUSTEES OF BOSTON UNIVERSITY - Boston MA
BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY - Waltham MA
MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY - Cambridge MA
International Classification:
G01T 3/06
G01V 5/00
Abstract:
A neutron detector includes a pressure vessel, an electrically conductive field cage assembly within the pressure vessel and an imaging subsystem. A pressurized gas mixture of CF, He and He at respective partial pressures is used. The field cage establishes a relatively large drift region of low field strength, in which ionization electrons generated by neutron-He interactions are directed toward a substantially smaller amplification region of substantially higher field strength in which the ionization electrons undergo avalanche multiplication resulting in scintillation of the CFalong scintillation tracks. The imaging system generates two-dimensional images of the scintillation patterns and employs track-finding to identify tracks and deduce the rate and direction of incident neutrons. One or more photo-multiplier tubes record the time-profile of the scintillation tracks permitting the determination of the third coordinate.
