Arthur R. Ferguson - Glenview IL
Assignee:
Bombardier Motor Corporation of America - Grant FL
International Classification:
B63H 5125
US Classification:
440 75
Abstract:
A two-speed transmission ( ) with reverse gearing for a watercraft ( ). The transmission is disposed in the gimbal housing ( ) passing through the transom ( ) of the watercraft. A pair of planetary gears ( ) share a common ring gear ( ) to provide both forward-reverse and first-second gearing in a very compact package. The transmission housing may be formed in two portions, a first housing ( ) containing the forward-reverse gear mechanisms and a second housing ( ) containing the first-second gear mechanism. The transmission output shaft ( ) is connected to the drive shaft ( ) of a vertical drive unit ( ) by a double universal joint ( ) that may be replaced without disassembling the transmission components.

Propulsion System Having Means Dedicated For Driving Accessories In A Boat

US Patent:
6679741, Jan 20, 2004
Filed:
May 9, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/567365
Inventors:
Gerald Francis Bland - Glenview IL
Arthur R. Ferguson - Glenview IL
Stephen R. Johnson - Waukegan IL
Assignee:
Bombardier Motor Corporation of America - Grant FL
International Classification:
B63H 2334
US Classification:
440 83, 440113
Abstract:
A propulsion system and method for driving one or more accessories in an outdrive of a boat having an engine coupled to a drive shaft to supply torque thereto are provided. The torque received by the drive shaft is principally used to propel the boat. The propulsion system includes a driven shaft dedicated to drive the one or more accessories, and further includes a gear assembly for passing a portion of the torque received by the drive shaft to the driven shaft so that each of the one or more accessories coupled to the driven shaft receives driving torque therefrom.

Marine Steering System Having Swivel Bracket Forming Hydraulic Cylinder

US Patent:
6761599, Jul 13, 2004
Filed:
Apr 29, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/133647
Inventors:
Arthur R. Ferguson - Glenview IL
Assignee:
Teleflex Canada Limited Partnership - Richmond
International Classification:
B63H 5125
US Classification:
440 61S, 440 61 R
Abstract:
A steering apparatus for a marine craft has a first bracket connectable to the stern of the marine craft. There is a second bracket connectable to the propulsion unit of the marine craft. The second bracket is rotatably connected to the first bracket for relative rotation about an axis of rotation. The propulsion unit can be rotated about the axis of rotation relative to the stern of the craft. The second bracket has a cylindrical bore extending therethrough. A piston is reciprocatingly received within the bore. The piston slidingly engages the bore and has a piston rod connected thereto. The piston rod is operatively connected to the propulsion unit.

Marine Steering System Having Swivel Bracket Forming Hydraulic Cylinder

US Patent:
7128627, Oct 31, 2006
Filed:
Oct 27, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/693689
Inventors:
Arthur R. Ferguson - Glenview IL, US
Assignee:
Teleflex Canada Incorporated - Richmond
International Classification:
B63H 5/125
US Classification:
440615, 114144 R, 440 53
In an alternative embodiment a cable replaces the piston and is slidably received by a cable tube extending through end fittings in the bore.
