Computer Work Station

US Patent:
4709971, Dec 1, 1987
Filed:
Nov 12, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/796802
Inventors:
Richard Leeds - Lawrence NY
Arthur Roberts - Westbury NY
Assignee:
Global Equipment Company - Hempstead NY
International Classification:
A47B 2103
US Classification:
312201
Abstract:
A computer work station for use with a computer system includes two sections, a front section and a rear section, pivotably connected about an exterior pivot axis. The rear section includes shelves for supporting some components of the computer system, such as the CPU, display monitor, keyboard and modem. A keyboard shelf is slidably disposed within the rear section, while other shelves are fixedly mounted therewithin. A common power strip is disposed between two of the shelves of the rear section for providing a single connection of at least some of the components of the computer system to an exterior power source. The front section includes a front panel which extends substantially the entire height of the computer work station, and includes a cork strip for posting memoranda and the like thereon. The front section further includes shelves for supporting other components of the computer system, such as a printer and its associated box of paper. None of the shelves extend the complete depth of the computer work station, so that cords used to connect the various components of the computer system may be conveniently placed therebehind.

Rigid Plastics Tile With Textured Surface

US Patent:
3940528, Feb 24, 1976
Filed:
Dec 17, 1971
Appl. No.:
5/209176
Inventors:
Arthur H. Roberts - Westbury NY
International Classification:
B32B 100
US Classification:
428161
Abstract:
Rigid composite impact resistant textured tiles having a pliable and essentially void-free plastics facing component and a rigid backing component, are prepared by a specified sequential operation.

Shielding For Connector Hood

US Patent:
4747785, May 31, 1988
Filed:
Mar 17, 1987
Appl. No.:
6/944655
Inventors:
Arthur Roberts - Westbury NY
Richard Leeds - Lawrence NY
Assignee:
Global Equipment Company, Div. of Continental Dynamics
International Classification:
H01R 13658
US Classification:
439 88
Abstract:
Two conductive mating halves of a connector hood include facing inserts of resilient conductive materials. A cable, having shielding conductive braid or foil exposed on a surface thereof is contacted in passing between the inserts. A low-resistance electrical path is provided between the shielding and the conductive connector hood by a resilient conductive material for resisting escape of radio-frequency interference from the connector hood. In one embodiment of the invention, a foam material with parallel embedded metallic wires is employed for the resilient conductive material. The wires are preferably oriented for conduction between the connector hood and the shield braid or foil on the cable with substantially no conductive paths parallel to the axis of the cable. Facing, metallic spring-type strain-relief devices in the connector hood provide strain relief as well as enhance the resistance to radiation of radio-frequency interference.

Video Enhancement Method And System

US Patent:
4839726, Jun 13, 1989
Filed:
Jul 31, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/080272
Inventors:
Harvey L. Balopole - Little Neck NY
James J. Martinolich - Seaford NY
Arthur Roberts - Fresh Meadows NY
Henry W. Sadowski - Plainview NY
Assignee:
Fairchild Weston Systems, Inc. - Syosset NY
International Classification:
H04N 514
H04N 557
US Classification:
358166
Abstract:
On-the-fly video processing to implement two-dimensional algorithms is performed without a frame buffer or random-access memory, by using CCD delay elements whose clock rate is controlled by a phase synchronizing loop, to achieve precise vertical alignment of pixels where the chosen algorithm requires.

Electrical Connector Hood

US Patent:
4575174, Mar 11, 1986
Filed:
Aug 16, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/641390
Inventors:
Richard Leeds - Lawrence NY
Arthur Roberts - Westbury NY
Assignee:
Global Equipment Company, Division of Continental Dynamics Corp. - Hempstead NY
International Classification:
H01R 13585
US Classification:
339103M
Abstract:
A hood for an electrical connector employs a pair of identical body porti which are mated together to grasp the electrical connector and to provide strain relief to the exiting conductors. Strain relief is provided by a resilient or flexible strain relief tab extending angularly inward from an inner surface of each of the body portions. The strain relief tabs have sufficient resilience to permit outward deflection thereof as necessary to handle a substantial range of cable or wire bundle diameters. An optional bifurcated tip on the strain relief tab doubles the contact lines with a small cable and improves the ability of the tip to conform to the shape of a small cable or wire bundle. Ridges on the strain relief tab engage the surface of a large cable or wire bundle. The ridges may be sawteeth which are angled to resist outward forces on the cable or wire bundle.

Molded Solid Plastics Articles And A Method For Their Manufacture

US Patent:
3949125, Apr 6, 1976
Filed:
Mar 8, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/449350
Inventors:
Arthur H. Roberts - Westbury NY
International Classification:
B32B 306
B32B 300
US Classification:
428 99
Abstract:
This invention relates to composite articles of manufacture and to a method for the preparation of these articles. The articles are impact-resistant, three-dimensional and rigid. The articles are comprised of two essential elements: (1) A pliable, hollow premolded outer plastics layer and (2) an essentially rigid non-cellular organic plastics structural backing member solidified in the hollow interior of the plastics skin, and essentially solidly filling said hollow interior. The hollow outer layer is prepared in a manner to have an access opening to its hollow interior. A liquid plastics composition is next prepared in a separate step that comprises an organic binder which solidifies at room temperature, in most cases by converting to a thermoset stage. This liquid composition is then introduced through the access opening into the cavity of the premolded outer layer. The liquid composition is then solidified in a manner to fill essentially voidlessly and fully the cavity of the outer layer, thus producing a dense tough integral article of manufacture having the shape of the premolded outer layer.

Bathtub, Wall And Ceiling Liner Assembly

US Patent:
4067071, Jan 10, 1978
Filed:
Jun 10, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/694555
Inventors:
Murray Altman - Scarsdale NY
Richard Altman - Bardonia NY
Arthur Roberts - Westbury NY
Assignee:
Thermasol Ltd. - Leonia NJ
International Classification:
A47K 308
A47K 300
US Classification:
4145
Abstract:
A combination liner assembly for bathtub, walls and ceiling is provided for renovating a worn or outmoded bathtub installed in a wall recess. The assembly includes a plastic bathtub-shaped liner having a tub portion sized to be seated in the tub cavity of the bathtub with the bottom surface of the tub portion resting upon the bottom surface of the original tub cavity and said bottom surface supporting the weight of the liner as well as the water and the bather therein. The bathtub liner is connected to the waste and overflow drains of the original bathtub and has an outwardly projecting peripheral flange around the top edge thereof which overlies the marginal ledges of the bathtub. Sealing membranes provide water-tight seals between the peripheral flange of the bathtub liner and the walls of the wall recess. The assembly also includes a matching wall liner which covers the walls of the recess above the bathtub liner.
