4554561, 4554562, 4554521, 4554351, 455436, 455408, 455450, 370471, 370218, 709239, 709242
Abstract:
A system and method for message exchanges in a wireless communication network which minimize network overhead and offers fast determination of Coordinates of a device. Abstract:
A method and system for routing data in a wireless network () that enables all nodes () to find routes to each other even if the nodes are incapable of operating as a router to route packets received from other nodes (). Some of the meshed nodes further operate as intelligent access points () to provide the non-meshed nodes and other meshed nodes with access to other networks, such as the Internet ().

System And Method To Improve The Network Performance Of A Wireless Communications Network By Finding An Optimal Route Between A Source And A Destination

US Patent:
7280483, Oct 9, 2007
Filed:
Jun 7, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/863183
Inventors:
Avinash Joshi - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
MeshNetworks, Inc. - Maitland FL
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
H04Q 7/00
US Classification:
370238, 370232, 3702301, 370312, 370349, 370390, 709241
Abstract:
A system and method for calculating an optimal route at a node by making use of routing metrics which if carefully chosen, can provide stability to the network and also provide features like Self Healing and Load Balancing. A Routing metric is calculated as a scalar number based upon a number of factors, such as number of hops, data rate, link quality and device type. Each factor can be determined by evaluation of Hello messages, or other routing messages as required.

Method And Apparatus For Determining A Route Between A Source Node And A Destination Node In A Wireless Multihopping Communication Network

US Patent:
7315548, Jan 1, 2008
Filed:
Apr 13, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/403245
Inventors:
Avinash Joshi - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
MeshNetworks, Inc. - Maitland FL
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370401
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling the dissemination of Routing packets, and decreasing the latency in finding routes between nodes. The system and method provides message exchanges between wireless devices to determine optimized communication routes with a minimum of overhead messages and buffered data. Exchanged messages are reduced to a specific series of exchanges indicating destination, destination node detection, and route, preferably using a series of IAP devices. Routes are discovered in an efficient manner and latency in finding routes between nodes is reduced, thereby reducing buffered information levels at individual devices.

System And Method To Perform Smooth Handoff Of Mobile Terminals Between Fixed Terminals In A Network

US Patent:
7382740, Jun 3, 2008
Filed:
Jan 10, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/328623
Inventors:
Avinash Joshi - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
MeshNetworks, Inc. - Maitland FL
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
H04Q 7/24
US Classification:
370254, 370338
Abstract:
A system and method for enabling an ad-hoc communication network to maintain connectivity with the mobile nodes in the network in an effective and efficient manner with minimal overhead. The system and method enables an ad-hoc communication network to maintain connectivity between intelligent access points of the network and mobile nodes in the network while performing an on-demand protocol. The system and method further uses an improved distance vector routing algorithm and unicast messages, to thus avoid an increase routing advertisement frequency in the network while keeping network overhead at a minimum. The system and method also modifies the Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) protocol to facilitate smooth handoff of subscriber devices in an ad-hoc communication network while also eliminating unidirectional links between nodes in the network.

System And Method For Associating Different Types Of Nodes With Access Point Nodes In A Wireless Network To Route Data In The Wireless Network

US Patent:
7382759, Jun 3, 2008
Filed:
Sep 7, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/221136
Inventors:
Avinash Joshi - Orlando FL, US
Surong Zeng - Altamonte Springs FL, US
Robin U. Roberts - Orlando FL, US
Keith J. Goldberg - Casselberry FL, US
Assignee:
MeshNetworks, Inc. - Maitland FL
International Classification:
H04Q 7/24
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370338, 370400, 370406, 370351, 370256, 709220, 709242
Abstract:
A method and system for routing data in a wireless network () that enables all nodes () to find routes to each other even if the nodes () are non-meshed which are incapable of operating as a router to route packets received from other nodes (), and for associating and reassociating the non-meshed and meshed nodes with other meshed nodes (). The non-meshed nodes (STA -STA ) request association with one of the meshed nodes (AP) which are capable of performing packet routing, to request that the meshed node (AP) with which the non-meshed node (STA ) is associating operate as a proxy node to route packets between the associated non-meshed node (STA ) and other meshed or non-meshed nodes (). Some of the meshed nodes () further operate as intelligent access points () to provide the non-meshed nodes (STA -STA ) and other meshed nodes () with access to other networks, such as the Internet (), as well as to effect the association and reassociation of the non-meshed and meshed nodes ().

System And Method To Decrease The Route Convergence Time And Find Optimal Routes In A Wireless Communication Network

US Patent:
7408911, Aug 5, 2008
Filed:
Nov 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/982837
Inventors:
Avinash Joshi - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
MeshNetworks, Inc. - Maitland FL
International Classification:
H04Q 7/24
US Classification:

Abstract:
A system and method for decreasing the route convergence time in a wireless communication network, such as a wireless ad-hoc peer-to-peer network, by finding an alternate route if the nodes anticipate weakening or breakage of a route currently in use. The system and method which enables reactive routing protocols to find optimal routes between nodes in these types of networks when those routes cannot otherwise be found in certain conditions. The system and method thus decrease the route convergence time, provide an effective and efficient way to find optimal routes, and improve overall performance of the network with regard to throughput, delay, packet completion rate and other factors.

System And Method For Detecting Node Mobility Based On Network Topology Changes In A Wireless Communication Network

US Patent:
7447174, Nov 4, 2008
Filed:
Jan 10, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/329239
Inventors:
Avinash Joshi - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
MeshNetworks, Inc. - Maitland FL
International Classification:
H04Q 7/28
US Classification:
370328, 370338, 370336, 455457, 4554561
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for determining mobility of a first node in an ad hoc network. A particular node generates a fixed neighbor node table comprising second nodes in the area of the particular node which are not mobile. The particular node can monitor changes between the first node and the second nodes, and then determine if the first node is mobile based on the changes.
