Metamaterial Focal Plane Array For Broad Spectrum Imaging

US Patent:
2021005, Feb 25, 2021
Filed:
Aug 20, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/997994
Inventors:
- Crane IN, US
Benjamin R. Conley - Bloomington IN, US
Assignee:
The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Arlington VA
International Classification:
G02B 1/00
G01J 5/20
G01J 5/08
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a metamaterial focal plane array for broad spectrum imaging. Electromagnetic energy in the form of light is absorbed in or on a metamaterial absorber and a subsequent hot carriers are collected either in a semiconductor space charge region (e.g. P-N junction), or in some other modern collection scheme. Following the accumulation of photogenerated charge (electrons or holes), the signal is then converted to a digital signal using conventional or slightly modified ROIC modules.

Electronic Up-Conversions Of A Scene Using A Pixelated Detector Array

US Patent:
2018035, Dec 13, 2018
Filed:
Jun 7, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/002000
Inventors:
- Crane IN, US
Benjamin R. Conley - Bloomington IN, US
Assignee:
The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Crane IN
International Classification:
G02B 23/12
G02B 13/16
H04N 5/33
H01L 31/103
H03F 3/08
Abstract:
Systems are provided including night vision goggles and up-conversion circuits for converting short wave infrared (SWIR) light into near infrared (NIR) light or other visible light in low-light environments. An array of electrically coupled photodiodes, amplifiers, and NIR light emitters generate and amplify a current in response to SWIR, powering the light emitters to generate NIR light. The NIR can then be directed into a photomultiplier tube to amplify the light and allow an operator to see in low-light environments.

Metamaterial Photocathode For Detection And Imaging Of Infrared Radiation

US Patent:
2018035, Dec 6, 2018
Filed:
Aug 4, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/055080
Inventors:
- Crane IN, US
Benjamin R Conley - Bloomington IN, US
Assignee:
The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Crane IN
International Classification:
H01J 40/06
H01J 40/16
H04N 5/33
Abstract:
Exemplary metamaterial photocathodes enable detection of light from visible through long wave infrared wavelengths. Metamaterial stacks, comprising gold, silicon, and cesium-oxide, coupled to a semiconductor allow hot electrons to efficiently enter a vacuum. The hot electrons are multiplied in a multichannel plate and directly through another vacuum towards a phosphorus screen.
