Aug 21, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/646998
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Buford GA, US
Paul D. Fleming - Glendale CA, US
Assignee:
W & F Manufacturing - Sun Valley CA
International Classification:
E06B 7/22
US Classification:
52207, 52211, 52214, 527162, 49366, 49394, 49395
Abstract:
An astragal boot provides a substantially weatherproof seal at a lower end of a vertically elongated astragal installed on the free side edge or stile of a semi-active door in a double door entry set or the like. The astragal boot includes at least one and preferably multiple compliant fins for engaging an underlying threshold, when the semi-active door is in a closed position, to provide an effective barrier against penetration of wind and water. In the preferred form, the astragal boot further supports and retains adjacent ends of complaint weatherstripping mounted on the astragal and/or the bottom edge of the door. The astragal boot may be provided in a non-handed configuration for reversible mounting on a left-hand or right-hand installed semi-active door.

Adjustable Threshold

US Patent:
3967412, Jul 6, 1976
Filed:
Sep 17, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/613977
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
E06B 170
US Classification:
49468
Abstract:
A vertically adjustable threshold member or bar is shipped in a down position and is adjusted upwardly at installation by attached shouldered leveling screws engaging within flared T-nuts of base or sub-structue. A compressible seal is interposed between the outer longitudinal edge of the adjustable threshold member and an extruded metal sill. The outer longitudinal edge of the threshold member is beveled slightly for increasing pressure on seal as threshold member is raised.

Sliding Door Assembly With Weather Seal Structure

US Patent:
4891921, Jan 9, 1990
Filed:
Mar 30, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/031536
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
E04B 6508
E05C 912
US Classification:
52207
Abstract:
A sliding door assembly having a frame including a head jamb, a bottom sill, two vertical side jambs and a third center jamb for strength and rigidity of the overall frame. A fixed glass panel is mounted in a portion of said frame and a sliding glass panel mounted upon roller structure is mounted in another portion of the frame. The sliding glass panel has an extending fin around at least three sides thereof for cooperative association with weather seal structure provided with the non-movable portions of the assembly. The aluminum sill structure has self-draining slots therein and a replaceable plastic member is provided with the sill for ease of sliding of the sliding glass panel, as well as easy replacement thereof, if needed. Draining slots are also provided in the plastic member which are staggered relative to the slots in the aluminum to minimize wind blow through. The door assembly has an aluminum exterior and a wood interior, with the wood portion being removably attached by spring clips.

Door With Glass Panel

US Patent:
4327535, May 4, 1982
Filed:
Feb 21, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/123393
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
E06B 370
E06B 336
US Classification:
5230911
Abstract:
Opposing steel door skins are punched to provide openings of the required size for a specified lite unit. Lite unit locator and retaining flanges are simultaneously formed on the two skins. A prefabricated lite assembly consisting of a pane of glass and surrounding mitered wood frame with sealant is placed between two steel skins in interlocking engagement with the locator and retaining flanges and the door is put through a foaming operation to produce an interior foam core around the margins of the lite assembly or unit.

Liner For Intersecting Cross Bore And Edge Bore Of Foam-Filled Metal Skinned Door

US Patent:
4118895, Oct 10, 1978
Filed:
Dec 23, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/863909
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
E06B 300
US Classification:
49503
Abstract:
Prior to foaming, a unitary molded plastic liner or dam for the lockset cross bore and edge bore of a foam-filled metal skinned insulated door is installed between the metal skins in registration with accurately located pre-punched skin openings. The edge bore lining extension of the device is inserted into a preformed opening of the wooden stile for positioning the device. The device prevents insulating foam from entering the cross bore or intersecting edge bore in the subsequent foaming operation. Significant reinforcement is also provided between the metal skins of the door to prevent buckling of the skins during the installation of door hardware.

Rigidifying System For Window Assembly During Its Shipment And Installation

US Patent:
4691477, Sep 8, 1987
Filed:
Jul 28, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/889762
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
E06B 332
US Classification:
49380
Abstract:
To maintain a premanufactured sliding sash window assembly square and distortion-free during shipment and until completely installed in a building, the two vertical sides of the window frame are connected by a tension element which prevents outward bowing of the two frame sides. Protective clips are installed on the top and bottom rails of the exterior sliding window sash near the corners of the sash and are secured to the sash by adjustable clip and sash encircling bands. The upper sash clips include posts which are releasably anchored to interior faces of the window frame. The upper and lower sash clips include vertical spacing fingers which engage between the vertical edges of the exterior sash and opposing vertical faces of the window frame to provide proper spacing of the exterior sash relative to the vertical sides of the frame. The system causes the exterior sash to be locked within the frame near the top of the frame and to form a powerful brace for the window frame during handling, shipping and installation of the window assembly. The rigidifying system is removed from the assembly only after the installation of the assembly is completed.

Bottom Sweep And Rail Unit For Foam-Filled Doors

US Patent:
4114319, Sep 19, 1978
Filed:
Dec 23, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/863908
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
E06B 716
US Classification:
49488
Abstract:
To replace the customary wood bottom rail of a foam-filled metal skinned door, a prefabricated metallic bottom rail and Neoprene bottom sweep unit is utilized. The unit forms a closure for the bottom of the door panel during foaming and provides a better bond with the foam core and better anchorage therein.

Guide And Pivot Pin Cartridge Assemblies For Folding Doors

US Patent:
4095310, Jun 20, 1978
Filed:
Jul 21, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/817844
Inventors:
Bernard C. Governale - Duluth GA
Assignee:
Peachtree Doors, Inc. - Atlanta GA
International Classification:
E05D 1302
US Classification:
16 87R
Abstract:
Preassembled self-locking guide and pivot pin cartridge assemblies are installed on the job site in folding doors rather than on the factory assembly line. Considerable labor is saved in manufacturing and a better installation is achieved. Both the guide and pivot pin assemblies feature molded nylon housings which conveniently snap into place on the folding door brace structure. Top and bottom guide pin assemblies are identical and interchangeable. A lower adjustable pivot pin assembly possesses more than one and one-half inch of full threads on the molded nylon housing and includes a hardened steel lock clip having snap on engagement with the housing and threaded engagement with the adjustable screw-threaded pivot pin. A cooperating lock nut is provided to secure the assembly after proper adjustment. Both of the guide and pivot pin cartridge assemblies are insertable as units on the doors and can be removed if necessary.
