Geo Tagging Using Location Estimation

US Patent:
2012012, May 24, 2012
Filed:
May 18, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/110840
Inventors:
Bharath Narasimha Rao - San Jose CA, US
Madhusudan Chaudhary - Sunnyvale CA, US
Karthik Anantharaman - Cupertino CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
H04W 4/02
US Classification:
4554323, 4554561
Abstract:
A current location of a mobile system in a wireless network can be determined by using information provided by a base station in communication with the mobile system. The location information can be used to index a GEO Locate Table to determine a list of SIDs to populate an optimized scan list. The optimized scan list being used for system selection.

Location Estimation

US Patent:
2012012, May 24, 2012
Filed:
May 18, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/110835
Inventors:
Bharath Narasimha Rao - San Jose CA, US
Madhusudan Chaudhary - Sunnyvale CA, US
Karthik Anantharaman - Cupertino CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
US Classification:
4554561
Abstract:
A current location of a mobile system in a wireless network can be determined by using information provided by a base station in communication with the mobile system. The information can include a system identifier (SID) table and a local time offset (LTM_OFF) value and a daylight savings time (DAYLT) value. The SID table is used to provide a mobile country code (MCC) associated with a country in which the mobile device is located. The LTM_OFF value is used to provide a range of longitude values in which the mobile device is located. The current location of the mobile device is based upon at least the range of longitude values and the current country.

Idle Mode Receive Antenna Diversity System

US Patent:
2012028, Nov 8, 2012
Filed:
May 2, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/099081
Inventors:
Syed A. Mujtaba - Santa Clara CA, US
Youngjae Kim - Cupertino CA, US
Bharath Narasimha Rao - San Jose CA, US
Kee-Bong Song - Santa Clara CA, US
Xiaowen Wang - Cupertino CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
US Classification:
370252
Abstract:
Electronic devices may be provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may include radio-frequency transceiver circuitry coupled to multiple antennas. An electronic device may alternate between a sleep mode and a wake mode. During wake mode, the electronic device may monitor a paging channel in a wireless network for incoming paging signals. The device may use either a single antenna mode or a multiple antenna mode such as a dual antenna mode in monitoring the paging channel. In the single antenna mode, a single active antenna is used to receive paging signals. In the dual antenna mode two antennas are simultaneously used to receive paging signals. The device may choose which antenna mode to use based on signal quality measurements and history information on successfully received paging signals.

Wireless System Selection Based On Data Connectivity

US Patent:
2012030, Dec 6, 2012
Filed:

Bharath Narasimha RAO - San Jose CA, US
Karthik ANANTHARAMAN - Cupertino CA, US
Madhusudan CHAUDHARY - Sunnyvale CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 36/14
US Classification:
455437
Abstract:
The quality of a wireless data connection is used to identify a suitable radio access network on which a wireless multi-mode device camps.

Methods And Apparatus For Dynamically Configuring Search Operations In A Multi-Mode Device

US Patent:
2013024, Sep 19, 2013
Filed:
Mar 14, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/829279
Inventors:
Prashant H. Vashi - Cupertino CA, US
Madhusudan Chaudhary - Cupertino CA, US
Brian H. Cassidy - Cupertino CA, US
Karthik Anantharaman - Sunnyvale CA, US
Bharath Narasimha Rao - Cupertino CA, US
Assignee:
Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 48/18
US Classification:
4555521
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for dynamic search management in a multi-mode device. In one embodiment, a mobile device performs network search and acquisition by dynamically changing search delays and/or search frequencies. In one implementation, the mobile device adjusts the amount of time allocated for each network search based on e.g., previous network connection history (e.g., previously connected to a home network, previously connected to a roaming network), device conditions, user preferences, geographical information, etc. By focusing search effort on cellular technologies which have a high likelihood of success, the mobile device can greatly improve search time and reduce unnecessary power consumption.

Identity Verification

US Patent:
2013028, Oct 24, 2013
Filed:
Apr 23, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/453226
Inventors:
Bharath R. Rao - Santa Clara CA, US
Andrew J. Aftelak - Palatine IL, US
Assignee:
GENERAL INSTRUMENT CORPORATION - Horsham PA
International Classification:
G06F 21/20
H04L 9/32
G06F 7/04
US Classification:
726 7, 726 9
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and apparatus for providing digital authentication tokens that may be used to verify an identity of a party. A digital authentication token may be determined by iterating a hash function. The input for the first iteration of the hash function may be a function of a password received from a party. Also, a digital authentication token may be determined to be equal to an output of a function composition of a plurality of different hash functions. The argument of the function composition may the function of the password. The function of the password may be performed to increase the entropy of the password. The outputs of the hash functions used may be dependent on (different) salt values.

Location-Based Program Listing

Filed:
Aug 7, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/568193
Inventors:
Sridhar Kunisetty - Fremont CA, US
Varma L. Chanderraju - San Jose CA, US
Vinay Kalra - San Jose CA, US
Sanjeev K. Mishra - Sunnyvale CA, US
Bharath R. Rao - Santa Clara CA, US
Assignee:
GENERAL INSTRUMENT CORPORATION - Horsham PA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709217
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods that aid users, especially users temporarily staying in locations remote from home, in finding and accessing media content. A program listing tailored for the user's current location, and showing only services actually available at that location, is created and presented to the user. In some embodiments, the user interacts with the listing to access available media content items. If the user has expressed specific location-based preferences, then those preferences can be taken into account when creating the listing. If a service subscribed to by the user is not available at this remote location, then an alternate provider will be searched for, and, if found, the user's favorite shows can be added to the created program listing.
