US Classification:
606246
Abstract:
Spinal motion preservation assemblies adapted for use in a spinal motion segment are disclosed including the process for delivering and assembling the spinal motion preservation assemblies in the spinal motion segment via an axial channel created with a trans-sacral approach. Many of the spinal motion preservation assemblies make use of a dual pivot. A number of different embodiments of spinal motion preservation assemblies are disclosed which include at least one component adapted for elastic deformation under compressive loads. The disclosed mobility preservation assemblies provide for dynamic stabilization of the spinal motion segment. Other variations and implementations of the teachings are disclosed, including the sheathed delivery of membranes in order to protect the membranes before and during deployment.

Drivers For Inserts To Bone Anchors

Multi-Membrane Prosthetic Nucleus

US Patent:
8088147, Jan 3, 2012
Filed:
Apr 2, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/061556
Inventors:
Stephen D. Ainsworth - Wilmington NC, US
Brandon B. Arthurs - Wilmington NC, US
Robert L. Assell - Wilmington NC, US
Bradley J. Wessman - Wilmington NC, US
Assignee:
TranS1 Inc. - Wilmington NC
International Classification:
A61B 17/70
US Classification:
606246, 623 1711
Abstract:
Multi-membrane prosthetic nucleus and implants using same are disclosed having an outermost membrane that is semi-compliant and limits the innermost membrane and any intermediate membranes that are highly compliant from bulging out of any opening in the annulus fibrosus. The outermost membrane may help protect the innermost membrane from trauma including any trauma before the innermost membrane is expanded through the injection of prosthetic nucleus material and trauma during the expansion of the innermost membrane in response to the injection of prosthetic nucleus material. Also disclosed is a coated membrane which combines the mechanical properties of the foundation layer with the low permeability to the passage of the flowable prosthetic material of the coating. This coated membrane is semi-compliant and prevents the prosthetic nucleus from bulging out of any openings in the annulus fibrosus. Use is made of injected prosthetic nucleus material that changes to a non-flowable state.

Method And Apparatus For Removable Spinal Implant Extending Between At Least Two Adjacent Vertebral Bodies

US Patent:
8308777, Nov 13, 2012

Assignee:
TranS1 Inc. - Wilmington NC
International Classification:
A61B 17/88
US Classification:
606279, 606 99
Abstract:
Disclosed are surgical tools, tool sets and methods for percutaneously accessing and preparing treatment sites within the spine for subsequent treatment procedures. The treatment site may be an inter-vertebral motion segments in the lumbar and sacral regions of the spine. The tool set may comprise introducer tools and bone dilators for accessing and tapping into a targeted site, such as, for example, the anterior surface of the S vertebral body. The tool set may also comprise cutters and extractors for preparing the treatment site for subsequent treatment procedures. The tool set may additionally comprise a bone graft inserter, an exchange system, and/or a temporary distraction tool for further preparing the treatment site for subsequent treatment procedures.

Cutter For Preparing Intervertebral Disc Space

US Patent:
2007026, Nov 8, 2007
Filed:
Feb 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/712548
Inventors:
Robert Assell - Wilmington NC, US
Stephen Ainsworth - Wilmington NC, US
Bradley Wessman - Wilmington NC, US
Michael Barnhouse - Wilmington NC, US
Brandon Arthurs - Wilmington NC, US
Andrew Cragg - Edina MN, US
Eugene Dickhudt - Lino Lakes MN, US
Assignee:
TranS1 Inc. - Wilmington NC
International Classification:
A61B 17/32
US Classification:
606171000
Abstract:
Cutter assemblies for use with cutter blades made of shape memory materials. The cutter blades may be deployed in the interior of an intervertebral disc space and rotated relative to a central axis of the cutter assembly to cut the material present for removal from the intervertebral disc space. Cutter blades with different attributes (such as throw length, cutter blade angle, type and location of blade edges) are adapted to achieve different objectives within the intervertebral disc space. Some cutter blades are adapted to promote bleeding of cartilage and vertebral body endplates and some cutter blades are adopted to avoid causing such bleeding. Closed loop cutter blades are described which have certain desirable attributes including the ability to remove the entire cutter blade from the intervertebral disc space after a break in the blade. Serration patterns are disclosed including a serration pattern that makes use of trapezoidal serrations.

Dishwasher Accessory For Securing And Supporting Stemware

US Patent:
6394285, May 28, 2002
Filed:
Feb 29, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/516006
Inventors:
Michelle Smith Arthurs - Wilmington NC, 28409
Brandon Blair Arthurs - Wilmington NC, 28409
International Classification:
A47F 700
US Classification:
211 419, 2483167
Abstract:
An elongated durable corrosion resistent dishwasher accessory for securing and supporting stemware in a dishwasher rack. At one end of the dishwasher accessory is a C-shaped clip for connecting to a horizontal wire stringer on a dishwasher rack. At that same end of the dishwasher accessory is a bore that allows a vertical wire stringer to pass within the bore to secure the dishwasher accessory to the dishwasher rack. At the opposite end of the dishwasher accessory is two oppositely positioned gripper jaws with various sized bores therein. These bores clip around the stem of a piece of stemware, which secures the stemware in a vertical downward position within a dishwasher rack when the dishwasher accessory is secured to the wire stringer. This allows the washing streams of water to securely wash the liquid retaining portion of the stemware without upsetting or turning over the stemware in the dishwasher rack. The dishwasher accessory adjusts to different size and different heights of stemware, is durable, simple to construct, and easy to operate.

Abstract:
A medical retractor having a first retractor blade with a shim channel disposed in the first retractor blade. The shim channel has a cross-sectional area which remains unchanged for an entire length of the shim channel. The unchanged cross-sectional area of the shim channel permits medical tools to slide therethrough to engage a surgical site. Or, this permits the medical retractor to slide down over the medical tools that are engaged with the surgical site. Also, a medical retractor assembly that includes a medical retractor having a first retractor blade with a shim channel disposed in the first retractor blade. The medical retractor assembly also includes a first dilator having a cylindrical component and a shim component. The shim component can slidably engage with the shim channel of the medical retractor. The first dilator has a cross-section for most of its length that has a round portion and an arc-shaped portion attached to the round portion.
