Abstract:
A neonatal feeding tube () includes electronics and instrumentation for monitoring a neonate and for provides nourishment to the neonate. The tube () includes electrodes () for sensing ECG signals of the neonate. Thermistors () are placed at various points along the tube () to measure the neonate's temperature at those points. Breathing effort is measured by calculating a pressure differential at two pressure ports (). Pulse and SpOare measured at a fiber optic window (). The electrodes (), a distal electrode () and a light source () aid in helping a caregiver position the tip () of the tube () correctly in the stomach of the neonate.

Optimizing Physiologic Monitoring Based On Available But Variable Signal Quality

US Patent:
2011000, Jan 6, 2011
Filed:
Feb 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/918822
Inventors:
Brian Gross - North Andover MA, US
Assignee:
KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V. - EINDHOVEN
International Classification:
H04L 12/56
G08B 23/00
US Classification:
370235, 3405731
Abstract:
When transmitting patient data over a hospital network, data types are prioritized into a data type hierarchy () that is employed to rank data types in order of criticality for transmission during periods of diminished signal quality. As signal quality decreases, less critical data types are omitted from transmission and stored to a gap data buffer for later transmission. As signal quality recovers, the less critical data types are restored to current data transmissions. Once all data types are restored during current transmission, previously omitted gap data is transmitted to fill in the gaps in a receiving device such as a network server to ensure that a complete data set is provided to the network and/or other devices coupled thereto.

International Classification:
G06F 19/00
G06Q 50/00
US Classification:
702 19, 705 2
Abstract:
An apparatus () for predicting patient respiratory stability includes a patient data memory () which stores patient data for a patient () and an analyzer () in communication with the memory computes a measure of patient respiratory stability. The analyzer applies one or more rules to the patient data that are based on a plurality of parameters which in combination, have been identified as being predictive of patient respiratory instability, such as mean airway pressure (MAWP), plateau pressure (PP), arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2 or SpO2), and heart rate (HR). Based on the application of the rules, the analyzer determines the measure of patient respiratory stability.

Medical vital signs () are captured, recorded, processed, and a signal quality assessment () is computed based on signal waveform components such as slope, amplitude, time to rise, time at peak, and degree to which signal peaks () and valleys (). The signal assessment () may be used as a basis for rating the quality () of the underlying vital signal, to increase the quality of the signal by removing noisy segments and physiologically impossible peaks () and valleys (), to detect a parameter value (), to label a waveform (), or to prompt an alarm () to indicate the signal has reached a critical level and issue a warning to the user of the vital data. The signal and the assessment are stored in an indexed, searchable data storage memory () from which the signals may be retrieved and displayed ().

Patient Monitoring With Automatic Resizing Of Display Sectors

US Patent:
