Hydraulically-Actuated Vct System Including A Spool Valve

US Patent:
2022031, Oct 6, 2022
Filed:
Jun 21, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/845009
Inventors:
- Auburn Hills MI, US
Brian T. Kenyon - Mcgraw NY, US
International Classification:
F01L 1/344
Abstract:
A hydraulically-actuated variable camshaft timing (VCT) system comprises a spool valve including a sleeve and a spool, having a plurality of radially-outwardly extending lands, received within the sleeve; a first fluid supply port in the sleeve configured to receive fluid from a fluid supply; a second fluid supply port in the sleeve configured to receive fluid from the fluid supply; an advancing port in the sleeve in fluid communication with an advancing chamber of a hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; a retarding port in the sleeve in fluid communication with a retarding chamber of the hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; and an exhaust port axially positioned in the sleeve in between the first fluid supply port and the second fluid supply port or in between the advancing port and the retarding port, wherein the exhaust port is configured to selectively receive fluid from either the advancing chamber or the retarding chamber depending on an axial position of the spool relative to the sleeve.

Variable Camshaft Timing System

US Patent:
2023009, Mar 23, 2023
Filed:
Sep 17, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/477756
Inventors:
- AuburnHills MI, US
David C. White - Dryden NY, US
Shawn Blackmur - Brooktondale NY, US
Timothy W. Kunz - Rochester NY, US
Brian T. Kenyon - McGraw NY, US
International Classification:
F01L 1/356
F01L 1/047
Abstract:
A variable camshaft timing (VCT) system includes an independent camshaft phaser, receiving input from a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, having an output coupled to one of an inner concentric camshaft or an outer concentric camshaft; and a dependent camshaft phaser, coupled to the other of the inner concentric camshaft or the outer concentric camshaft, comprising a half-Oldham link configured to permit radial movement of the inner concentric camshaft relative to the outer concentric camshaft in one radial direction and at least one pivotable arm configured to permit radial movement of the inner concentric camshaft relative to the outer concentric camshaft in another, different radial direction.

Hydraulically-Actuated Vct System Including A Spool Valve

US Patent:
2023007, Mar 9, 2023
Filed:
Sep 3, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/465914
Inventors:
- Auburn Hills MI, US
Brian T. Kenyon - McGraw NY, US
International Classification:
F01L 1/344
Abstract:
A hydraulically-actuated variable camshaft timing (VCT) system comprises a spool valve including a sleeve and a spool, having a plurality of radially-outwardly extending lands, received within a sleeve; a sleeve fluid pathway, extending axially along the sleeve and formed within the sleeve, configured to receive fluid from a fluid supply; an advancing port in the sleeve in fluid communication with an advancing chamber of a hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; a retarding port in the sleeve in fluid communication with a retarding chamber of the hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; a first fluid supply port formed in the sleeve; a second fluid supply port formed in the sleeve; and an exhaust port axially positioned in the sleeve in between the first fluid supply port and the second fluid supply port or in between the advancing port and the retarding port, wherein the exhaust port is configured to selectively receive fluid from either the advancing chamber or the retarding chamber depending on an axial position of the spool relative to the sleeve.

Hybrid Phaser With Hydraulic Lock In An Intermediate Position

US Patent:
2021027, Sep 9, 2021
Filed:
Sep 13, 2019
Appl. No.:
17/273909
Inventors:
- Auburn Hills MI, US
Brian Kenyon - McGraw NY, US
International Classification:
F01L 1/344
Abstract:
A phaser which has an offset or remote pilot valve added to the hydraulic circuit to manage a hydraulic detent switching function, in order to provide a mid-position lock for cold starts of the engine, either during cranking or prior to complete engine shutdown. The mid-position locking of the phaser positions the cam at an optimum position for cold restarts of the engine.

Centerless Grinding Through The Application Of A Helical Twist To Axial Grooves

US Patent:
2020026, Aug 27, 2020
Filed:
Feb 17, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/792529
Inventors:
- Auburn Hills MI, US
Brian KENYON - McGraw NY, US
Philippe Alain CLAYTON - Camparada (MB), IT
International Classification:
B24B 19/02
B24B 41/06
Abstract:
A cylindrical workpiece with a helical axial groove allowing for centerless grinding which has an angular overlap around the outer circumference on the body of the workpiece. The angular overlap ensures continuous tangential contact with the grinding wheels as the workpiece is rotated.

Variable Camshaft Timing Assembly

US Patent:
2020016, May 28, 2020
Filed:
Nov 27, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/697322
Inventors:
- Auburn Hills MI, US
Brian Thomas KENYON - McGraw NY, US
International Classification:
F01L 1/344
F01L 1/047
Abstract:
A variable camshaft timing (VCT) assembly for controlling angular positions of concentric camshafts. The VCT assembly includes an independent VCT device and a dependent VCT device. The independent VCT device is hydraulically- or electrically-actuated. The independent VCT device is coupled with a first concentric camshaft and has a first component that rotates during phasing movements. The first component has a first set of slots therein. The dependent VCT device is coupled with a second concentric camshaft. The dependent VCT device has a second component that lacks rotation during phasing movements, and has multiple phase lugs. The second component has a second set of slots therein. The phase lugs are received in the first set of slots and are received in the second set of slots.
