International Classification:
F42B 1332
US Classification:
244 3240
Abstract:
An apparatus for and method of depolying a movable aerosurface of an aerial vehicle from a folded position to an unfolded, operative flight position. The aerosurface, such as a fin for example, includes a pivotal base member and a control surface connected to the base member for movement relative thereto. An actuator effects pivotal movement of the aerosurface at a predetermined angular rate of deployment. During the initial depolyment cycle the control surface is deflected relative to the base member in a direction and manner imparting aerodynamic forces against the aerosurface to accelerate the angular rate of deployment of the aerosurface. Thereafter, the control surface is deflected in a reverse direction during a later portion of the deployment cycle to impart aerodynamic forces for decelerating and dampening the angular rate of aerosurface deployment to reduce arresting loads as the aerosurface approaches its fully unfolded position.
Low Height Fin Control Actuator
US Patent:
4655420, Apr 7, 1987
Filed:
Jun 9, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/502818
Inventors:
Carl M. Spiroff - Granite City IL
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air
Force - Washington DC
Force - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42B 15027
US Classification:
244 324
Abstract:
A missile fin control actuator includes a housing having a hollow cavity within which is mounted a single bearing. On the inner race of the bearing, a lower cap attaches the base of a fin mounting shaft or integral fin for rotation with the inner race. The outer race of the bearing is retained in a fixed position in the housing by an upper cap. A crankarm attached to the lower cap may be actuated to rotate the lower cap and the inner race and mounting shaft (or integral fin) therewith.
Means And Methods For Punching Holes In Catheters
US Patent:
3995518, Dec 7, 1976
Filed:
Aug 28, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/608573
Inventors:
Carl M. Spiroff - Granite City IL
International Classification:
B26F 132
US Classification:
83 54
Abstract:
The invention comprises a means and method for punching medically acceptable holes in flexible catheter tubing through a manual punching device which includes an elongated shank sized for snug fitting disposition within the catheter tube and is provided with a pair of cooperating wedge-shaped elements which are driven against each other by manipulation of the device to drive a punch radially outwardly through the wall of the catheter tube and through a complimentary female die which is snugly disposed against the outer wall of the catheter tube.
