Infant Soothing Device

US Patent:
2002011, Aug 22, 2002
Filed:
Feb 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/781527
Inventors:
Carl Stern - Pennington NJ, US
Andrew Weiman - Newtown PA, US
International Classification:
A47D001/10
US Classification:

Abstract:
An infant soothing device includes a base, a rocking platform pivotally mounted to the base, a drive mechanism for reciprocating the rocking platform up and down relative to the base and a carriage having an infant restraining device positioned thereon, the carriage shaped to reciprocably move back and forth within the rocking platform.

Vehicle With Electronic Sounder And Direction Sensor

US Patent:
4946416, Aug 7, 1990
Filed:
Nov 1, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/431020
Inventors:
Carl M. Stern - Pennington NJ
Richard N. Meckstroth - Princeton NJ
Stephen L. Hayes - East Windsor NJ
Assignee:
Innova Development Corporation - Pennington NJ
International Classification:
A63H 500
A63H 3326
A63H 3322
A63H 3000
US Classification:
446409
Abstract:
A toy wheeled vehicle such as a toy truck which is intended to be pushed along by a child includes electronic circuitry which is capable of emitting a plurality of different sounds similar to the sounds of a real truck. The actual sound of a truck's internal combustion engine is digitized and stored in a microprocessor along with other sounds such as those generated by a starter motor, horn, backup beeper and the like. In addition, the microprocessor is capable of synthesizing additional realistic vehicle sounds such as those generated by air brakes and the like. A starter switch first activates the starter motor sound and then the engine sound at idle speed. A speed sensor senses both speed and the direction of travel and varies the engine sound in response to the sensed speed. The backup beeper sound is automatically generated along with the engine sound when the truck is moved in reverse. The microprocessor not only stores all of the digitized sounds but also controls all of the operations of the truck.

Anti-Clogging, Variable Throat Suction Nozzle And Suction Cleaning Device Equipped Therewith

US Patent:
5604950, Feb 25, 1997
Filed:
Oct 27, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/549047
Inventors:
Carl M. Stern - Pennington NJ
Assignee:
H-Tech, Inc. - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
E04H 416
A47L 902
US Classification:
15 17
Abstract:
A suction nozzle adapted for use in a suction cleaning device, such as an automatic swimming pool cleaner, includes a body having a throat extending from an inlet at one end of the body to an outlet at an opposite end of the body. The body itself is split longitudinally into a plurality of discrete body portions to form the throat of the nozzle. One body portion is movable relative to the other body portion, whereby the throat automatically expands in response to the relative movement of the body portions. The resulting expansion of the nozzle allows substantially unrestricted passage of large foreign objects through the throat during the operation of the suction cleaning device.

Security Gate Operable With One Hand

US Patent:
4846246, Jul 11, 1989
Filed:
Sep 23, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/100336
Inventors:
Carl M. Stern - Lawrenceville NJ
Assignee:
Innova Development Corporation - Lawrenceville NJ
International Classification:
E06B 312
US Classification:
160224
Abstract:
A security gate includes an installation and release mechanism that is operable with one hand. The gate comprises two panels which are extendible with respect to each other and lockable in the extended position. This makes it possible for the gate to expand across a wide variety of door openings. A handle located centrally on the top of the gate is connected by a pair of cranks and a pull rod to a pair of plungers which contact one side of the door frame. Spring bias on the plungers normally force the plungers into contact with the door frame. Slots in the upper and lower plunger links permit the plungers to accommodate irregular door frames. The handle is employed to withdraw the plungers from contact with the door frames and, conversely, the absence of handle pressure causes the gate to position itself soldily against the vertical door jamb. The handle is also employed by the operator to carry and position the gate in the doorway, allowing one-handed operation. A thumb operable handle interlock system prevents the handle from being accidentally manipulated unless one of two release interlock buttons is depressed by the thumb of the user.

Infant Swing

US Patent:
5803817, Sep 8, 1998
Filed:
Aug 15, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/698371
Inventors:
Carl M. Stern - Pennington NJ
Assignee:
Fisher-Price, Inc. - East Aurora NY
International Classification:
A63G 900
US Classification:
472118
Abstract:
An infant's swing is disclosed that has a frame, a swing arm, and a seat releasably mounted on the swing arm by a seat-to-frame coupler assembly that includes a pivot plate mounted to the back of the seat and a T-shaped connector mounted to the lower end of the swing arm. The connector is received in a mating cavity formed in the rear surface of the pivot plate, and the connector is engaged with the cavity by cooperation of slots in the cavity and posts on the connector. The pivot plate is pivotally mounted to the seat to permit the seat to pivot between a recline position and an upright position.
