Apparatus And Method To Complete A Multilateral Junction

US Patent:
6619400, Sep 16, 2003
Filed:
Jul 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/897520
Inventors:
Charles G. Brunet - Houston TX
Assignee:
Weatherford/Lamb, Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 1916
US Classification:
166313, 166 50, 1661175
Abstract:
An apparatus for locating a first tubular with respect to a window in a second tubular including at least one member extending from an outer surface of a liner for aligning the liner with respect to a window in a casing of a primary wellbore. In one aspect, the invention includes a key and a no-go obstruction to rotationally and axially align the apparatus with the window.

Apparatus And Method To Complete A Multilateral Junction

US Patent:
6848504, Feb 1, 2005
Filed:
Jul 26, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/205978
Inventors:
Charles G. Brunet - Houston TX, US
Michel Bouchard - Nassau, N.P., BS
International Classification:
E21B 708
US Classification:
1661175, 1661176, 175 61, 175 81
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for connecting a lateral well bore to a vertical well bore using a tieback liner while providing full bore access in the vertical well bore casing. The tieback liner is rotationally aligned with respect to a window of the casing by locating a key slot formed above the window and longitudinally aligned by using a no-go device to locate the bottom edge of the window. The tieback liner includes a snap sleeve that extends into a window of the main well bore casing and connects the tieback liner to the casing. The section of the casing receiving the snap sleeve is of a larger inner diameter than the other sections of casing. The connection between the tieback liner and casing prevents the tieback liner from rotating, tilting, or moving laterally with respect to the casing. The connection imparts significant resistance to formation loading applied at the junction.

Assignee:
Weatherford/Lamb. Inc. - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 23/03
US Classification:
1662426, 166 651, 1662552, 1661176, 166 50
Abstract:
The present invention provides apparatus and methods for controlling and/or powering downhole components without the need for control and/or power lines extending from the components to the surface of the well and without the need for power or control lines to be inserted into the wellbore along with the components. In one aspect of the invention, a borehole is lined with a casing, the casing having at least one aperture disposed. Adjacent the aperture, on the outer surface of the casing, is a docking station, which is permanently attached to the casing and includes a socket. After the casing is installed in the borehole, a downhole component can be lowered into the wellbore. The downhole component is equipped with a connector extending from an outer surface thereof. The connector assembly is disposable through the aperture in the casing and, the connector assembly can be connected to the socket of docking station.

Apparatus, System And Method For Installing Boreholes From A Main Wellbore

US Patent:
7669672, Mar 2, 2010

Apparatus And Method For Conveyance And Control Of A High Pressure Hose In Jet Drilling Operations

US Patent:
8167060, May 1, 2012
Filed:
Sep 3, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/203504
Inventors:
Charles Brunet - Houston TX, US
Michel Bouchard - Calgary, CA
International Classification:
E21B 7/18
US Classification:
175424, 175 62, 175 79, 166222
Abstract:
A jetting hose is conveyed downhole retracted within a tubing string for jetting lateral boreholes from a main wellbore, is released at the jetting depth and pumped from the tubing string and into a lateral borehole with jetting fluid. A piston is secured to the upper end of the jetting hose, and the pumped jetting fluid drives the piston. A speed control regulates the penetration rate of the jetting hose into the formation independent of the tubing string weight.

Apparatus And Method For Milling Casing In Jet Drilling Applications For Hydrocarbon Production

US Patent:
8528644, Sep 10, 2013
Filed:
Oct 21, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/682959
Inventors:
Charles Brunet - Houston TX, US
Michel Bouchard - Calgary, CA
Assignee:
Radjet LLC - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 29/00
E21B 43/11
E21B 7/04
E21B 7/08
US Classification:
166298, 166 552, 175 61, 175 73, 175 75, 175 78
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for improving control over the milling force applied to a milling bit that is turned through a rotary drive to form a hole in a wellbore casing. A bit-weighting sub is applied between the tubing used to lower the rotary drive's motor into the wellbore and the rotary drive itself, the sub serving to take the weight of the tubing off the rotary drive when the motor lands in operative connection with the drive, and further serving to apply a known milling force to the drive (and thus to the bit) independent of the weight of the tubing. In a preferred form the sub includes a spring that is compressed against the drive when the tubing and motor are landed.
