Fluid Line Connector Safety Device

US Patent:
8042838, Oct 25, 2011
Filed:
May 18, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/782557
Inventors:
Kenneth Everett Buckler - Methuen MA, US
David Farias De Souza - Essex MA, US
Jeffrey H. Burbank - Boxford MA, US
James M. Brugger - Newburyport MA, US
William Weigel - York ME, US
Assignee:
Nxstage Medical, Inc. - Lawrence MA
International Classification:
F16L 55/00
US Classification:
285 92, 285 81, 604905, 604241
Abstract:
Devices can use various features to prevent the disconnection of connectors used in medical treatments. For example, a disconnection prevention member can have ends which hold luer connectors such that a male luer connector is prevented from separating from a female luer connector. The member can thus prevent disconnection of luer connectors that are incompletely mated.

Cartridge-Based Medical Fluid Processing System

US Patent:
2004013, Jul 15, 2004
Filed:
Oct 8, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/680889
Inventors:
Jeffrey Burbank - Boxford MA, US
James Brugger - Newburyport MA, US
Dennis Treu - Bedford NH, US
William Weigel - York ME, US
International Classification:
A61M037/00
C02F009/00
B01D001/00
US Classification:
604/006130, 604/004010, 210/257100, 210/646000
Abstract:
A blood processing system ensures proper temperature of blood returned to a patient by means of a fluid circuit with a warming portion that is engaged with the entirety of the fluid circuit in a single operational step. In an embodiment, the single-step set up is achieved by providing a cartridge-mounted fluid circuit with a warming portion integrated into it. A blood processing machine engages actuators, sensors, etc. of the blood processing and simultaneously a heating portion to supply heat to the blood circuit in a manner that ensures a proper return temperature of blood.

Volumetric Fluid Balance Control For Extracorporeal Blood Treatment

US Patent:
2005000, Jan 6, 2005
Filed:
Sep 26, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/672242
Inventors:
William Weigel - York ME, US
Daniel Call - Chicago IL, US
Dennis Treu - Bedford NH, US
International Classification:
B01D035/14
US Classification:
210090000, 210101000, 604065000
Abstract:
A method and device for adjusting a volumetric flow balancing system for an extracorporeal blood treatment system receives a pressure signal and calculates a compensation factor that is used to adjust the relative flow rates of the volumetrically balanced fluids. For example, in a hemofiltration system, the flow of waste and and replacement fluid may be balanced volumetrically. Ultrafiltrate may be pumped in a bypass circuit in such a system. The rate of ultrafiltrate flow may be adjusted by the compensation signal. The compensation signal may be empirically derived.

Fluid Purification Methods, Devices, And Systems

US Patent:
2021016, Jun 3, 2021
Filed:
Feb 16, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/176621
Inventors:
- Lawrence MA, US
William K. WEIGEL - Portland ME, US
Goetz FRIEDERICHS - Beverly MA, US
Assignee:
NxStage Medical, Inc. - Lawrence MA
International Classification:
C02F 1/469
C02F 1/44
C02F 1/00
B01D 61/54
C02F 1/32
B01D 61/42
B01D 65/02
B01D 61/52
Abstract:
A fluid purification system has cells whose purifying capability can be regenerated. Some of the cells are arranged in series to reach a high level of purification. An automatic valve network is controlled to cycle the cells in a way that levels the loads on each, thereby maximizing the service interval for replacing expired cells, enabling all of the cells to be replaced at the same time after having each contributing approximately equally to the purification load, and operated such that at any one time, at least one cell is regenerated so as to enable continuous up-time.
