Sound System Gain And Equalization Circuit

US Patent:
5717773, Feb 10, 1998
Filed:
Mar 30, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/413398
Inventors:
Clifford Maag - Provo UT
Lance Parker - Orem UT
Assignee:
Night Technologies International - Provo UT
International Classification:
H03G 500
H03G 300
US Classification:
381 98
Abstract:
A multi-band equalizer for receiving and processing an audio signal includes a plurality of operational amplifiers, each for processing a different frequency band of the audio signal to produce an output signal. Each operational amplifier includes an inverting input, a non-inverting input, a resistor means coupled to the non-inverting input for receiving the audio signal and supplying it to the non-inverting input, an output, a feedback circuit coupled between the output and the inverting input for determining the upper limits of the frequency band processed by that particular operational amplifier, and an input circuit coupled between the inverting input and ground potential for determining the lower limits of the frequency band processed by that operational amplifier. An additional operational amplifier is provided for processing a higher frequency band of the audio signal than those processed by the plurality of operational amplifiers, for producing an output signal. The additional operational amplifier includes the same elements as the plurality of operational amplifiers except the feedback circuit which is replaced by a resistor.

Sound System Gain And Equalization Circuit

US Patent:
5748754, May 5, 1998
Filed:
Sep 5, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/523277
Inventors:
Clifford Maag - Provo UT
Lance Parker - Orem UT
Assignee:
Night Technologies International - Provo UT
International Classification:
H03G 500
H03G 300
US Classification:
381104
Abstract:
A multi-band equalizer for receiving and processing an audio signal includes a plurality of operational amplifiers; each for processing a different frequency band of the audio signal to produce an output signal. A summing circuit is coupled to the outputs of all of the operational amplifiers for combining the output signals thereof to produce a resultant signal. The summing circuit includes a plurality of variable resistors, each coupled to the output of a different operational amplifier for selectively varying the magnitude of the output signal from the respective operational amplifiers.

Parallel Preamplifier And Equalizer

US Patent:
5712591, Jan 27, 1998
Filed:
Apr 2, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/630412
Inventors:
Clifford Maag - Provo UT
Lance Parker - Orem UT
Assignee:
Night Technologies International - Provo UT
International Classification:
H03F 368
US Classification:
330 84
Abstract:
A preamplifier for processing an audio signal includes an equalizing and amplifying circuit comprised of parallel operational amplifiers, each with a feedback impedance circuit and an adjustable source impedance circuit. The adjustable source impedance circuit provides the preamplifier with a super-gain region in the high audio and supersonic frequency range. A summer adds the output of the parallel operational amplifiers to produce a single output signal. The parallel operational amplifiers, with the summer, gives the preamplifier unique low noise characteristic with an improved signal to noise ratio over a single operational amplifier with the same gain. The preamplifier may include an optional second stage for further equalizing and amplifying of the output signal.

Gain And Equalization System And Method

US Patent:
5892833, Apr 6, 1999
Filed:
Feb 5, 1998
Appl. No.:
/018687
Inventors:
Clifford Maag - Provo UT
Lance Parker - Orem UT
Quinn Jensen - Orem UT
Assignee:
Night Technologies International - Provo UT
International Classification:
H03G 500
H04R 102
US Classification:
381 98
Abstract:
A multi-band digital gain and equalizer system for receiving and processing an audio signal includes an analog-to-digital converter for converting the audio signal to a digital signal X, a plurality of digital filters, each for processing and selectively amplifying/attenuating a different frequency band of the signal X, to produce an output signal Y. sub. n, in which the waveform of the frequency response is concave downward for the central frequencies of the band and concave upward for the frequencies above and below the central frequencies, a summing circuit for summing the output signals Y. sub. n to produce a resultant digital signal, and a digital-to-analog converter for converting the resultant digital signal to a resultant analog audio signal. The center frequencies of each band processed by a digital filter is separated from adjacent center frequencies of bands processed by other digital filters, by about two octaves. An additional digital filter is provided for processing a frequency band of the signal X which is higher than the frequency bands processed by the plurality of digital filters, to produce an output signal Y. sub.

Audio Compressor With Parallel Equalizer Circuit

US Patent:
2018026, Sep 13, 2018
Filed:
Mar 10, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/917578
Inventors:
Clifford Maag - Provo UT, US
Travis Allen - Orem UT, US
Assignee:
Maag Audio, LLC - Provo UT
International Classification:
H03G 5/16
H03G 5/00
Abstract:
An audio equalizer circuit for controlling and modifying an audio signal includes a signal divider positioned to receive an audio signal from an audio source. The divided audio signal is then passed through multiple bandpass filters situated in parallel with one another. One or more of the bandpass filters includes a compressor in order to limit the dynamic range of the audio source. After the compressor, the audio circuit may include two summation circuits with the second compressor interposed between the two.
