System And Method For Bioremediating Wastestreams Containing Energetics

US Patent:
2003017, Sep 18, 2003
Filed:
Mar 14, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/096659
Inventors:
Byung Kim - Champaign IL, US
Neal Adrian - Champaign IL, US
Clint Arnett - Champaign IL, US
International Classification:
C07F001/00
US Classification:
435/262000, 588/205000, 435/290100
Abstract:
A bioremediation system converts a waste stream, at least part of which is a fluid containing energetics, to carbon dioxide (CO), water, and environmentally benign end products. It uses gas-enhanced sequencing-batch-reactors (SBRs), treating the waste stream in three SBRs seriatim. The first SBR uses a nitrogen purge, the second a hydrogen gas supplement, and the third an oxygen gas or forced air supplement. Each reactor may be supplemented with additives to optimize conditions such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and nutrient level. The system may be implemented under manual control, semi-automated, or fully automated, as needed. A waste stream of consideration is the pink water resultant from munitions fabrication and handling.

Enzyme-Mediated Assimilation Of Dna-Functionalized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (Swnts)

US Patent:
2015005, Feb 19, 2015
Filed:
Oct 6, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/267002
Inventors:
Thomas A. Carlson - Champaign IL, US
Charles P. Marsh - Urbana IL, US
Jae Hee Han - Seongnam-si, KR
Michael S. Strano - Lexington MA, US
Charles R. Welch - Vicksburg MS, US
Clint M. Arnett - Mahomet IL, US
International Classification:
C12P 19/34
C01B 31/02
US Classification:
4234472, 435 9152
Abstract:
Select embodiments of the present invention employ biological means to direct assemble CNT-based nanostructures, allowing for scaling to macrostructures for manufacture. In select embodiments of the present invention, a method is provided for assembling DNA-functionalized SWNTs by phosphodiester bonding catalyzed by ssDNA-ligase to form macroscopic CNT aggregates.
