Method And Catalyst For Removing Contaminants From Hydrocarbonaceous Fluids Using A Copper-Group Via Metal-Alumina Catalyst

US Patent:
4539101, Sep 3, 1985
Filed:
Aug 17, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/524064
Inventors:
Stephen M. Oleck - Moorestown NJ
Quang N. Le - Westville NJ
Daniel J. Neuman - Cherry Hill NJ
Assignee:
Mobil Oil Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
C01G 4504
US Classification:
208251H
Abstract:
There is provided a method and catalyst for removing catalyst-poisoning impurities or contaminants such as arsenic, iron and nickel from hydrocarbonaceous fluids, particularly shale oil and fractions thereof. More particularly there is provided a method of removal of such impurities by contacting the fluids with a copper-Group VIA metal-alumina catalyst. For example, a copper-molybdenum-alumina catalyst may be used as a guard bed material in a step preceding most refining operations, such as desulfurization, denitrogenation, catalytic hydrogenation, etc.

Catalyst Hydrotreating And Dewaxing Process

US Patent:
4913797, Apr 3, 1990
Filed:
Jan 12, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/296929
Inventors:
Kenneth R. Albinson - Audubon NJ
Sadi Mizrahi - Cherry Hill NJ
Daniel J. Neuman - Cherry Hill NJ
Assignee:
Mobil Oil Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
C10G 6504
C10G 6512
US Classification:
208 89
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a cascade catalytic hydrotreating/dewaxing process, wherein a hydrocarbon feedstock containing waxy components is treated. The hydrotreating phase precedes the dewaxing phase in order to remove contaminants, such as nitrogen and sulfur, from the feedstock to prolong the life of the catalyst used in the subsequent dewaxing step. A conventional hydrotreating catalyst is used. The dewaxing catalyst is a Zeolite Beta catalyst. The cascade process is conducted with or without interstage gas separation. The treatment occurs in the same or in separate reactors. The ratio of hydrotreating catalyst to dewaxing catalyst is greater than 1:2. This sequence of treatments enhances distillate yields and lowers processing and capital costs.
