Abstract:
An engine assembly includes a controller and at least one data storage medium storing a database. The database includes empirically-derived NOx values based on engine equivalence ratio and engine speed at predetermined reference conditions. The controller is configured to retrieve a NOx value from the database that corresponds to a measured value of the equivalence ratio and a measured value of the engine speed, and to modify the NOx value to compensate for differences between the reference conditions and the actual operating conditions of the engine assembly.

A control system for an engine includes first and second modules. The first module determines an oxygen concentration within an intake manifold of the engine. The second module regulates a flow of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) into the intake manifold based on the determined oxygen concentration. A system for a vehicle includes a first exhaust gas flow rate (EGF) estimation module, a second EGF estimation module, and an EGF fault detection module. The first EGF estimation module estimates a first flow rate of exhaust re-circulated back to an intake manifold based on a concentration of oxygen in the intake manifold. An engine control system for a vehicle includes a flowrate module, first and second mass fraction calculating modules, and an actuator control module. The flowrate module determines a mass flowrate of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to an engine. The first mass fraction calculating module, based on the mass flowrate of EGR, determines a first mass fraction of recirculated exhaust gas relative of a first gas charge for a first combustion event of the engine. The second mass fraction calculating module determines a second mass fraction of recirculated exhaust gas of a second gas charge for a second combustion event of the engine based on an average of the first mass fraction and one or more other values of the first mass fraction determined for other combustion events, respectively. A control system for a vehicle includes a motor driver module, a correlation triggering module, a target phase angle module, and a correlation control module. The motor driver module controls an electric camshaft phaser of an engine based on a desired phase angle between a position of a crankshaft and a position of a camshaft. The correlation triggering module selectively generates a signal based on the position of the camshaft. The target phase angle module adjusts the desired phase angle to a predetermined phase angle in response to the generation of the signal. The correlation control module, in response to the generation of the signal: determines the position of the crankshaft when the camshaft is in a predetermined position; and selectively outputs a fault indicator based on a comparison of the position of the crankshaft and a predetermined crankshaft position range corresponding to the predetermined position.

Abstract:
A vehicle system having an internal combustion engine and evaporative emission system including a canister is described, wherein canister includes a chamber having a flexible Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material disposed therein. A controllable device is coupled to the flexible MOF material, and a controller is operatively connected to the controllable device and the purge valve. The controller includes an instruction set that is executable to activate the controllable device and control the purge valve to an open state in response to a command to purge the canister, determine an activation parameter for the controllable device, determine a purge flow, integrate the purge flow to determine a total purge mass, and deactivate the controllable device when the total purge mass is greater than a threshold.
