Rigless One-Trip Perforation And Gravel Pack System And Method

US Patent:
6568474, May 27, 2003
Filed:
Mar 27, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/818298
Inventors:
Kevin R. George - Burleson TX
Stanley Wall - Houston TX
Marvin Bryce Traweek - Houston TX
Barry Ed Smith - Carencro LA
David Joseph Walker - Lafayette LA
David A. Hebert - Lafayette LA
Assignee:
BJ Services, USA - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 4308
US Classification:
166278, 166297, 166 551
Abstract:
A method of perforating and gravel packing a wellbore casing, having the following steps: (1) making-up to a pipe string: a packer, a screen, and a perforating apparatus; (2) running-in the pipe string until the perforating apparatus is at a depth of intended perforations; (3) setting the perforating apparatus in the wellbore casing at a depth of intended perforations; and (4) disconnecting the screen and perforating apparatus from the pipe string. A system for perforating and gravel packing a wellbore casing, having: a packer which is mechanically communicable with a service string: a screen in mechanical communication with the packer; a perforating apparatus in mechanical communication with the screen, wherein the screen and perforating apparatus are detachable from the packer; and a tool having at least one casing engaging slip segment, wherein the tool is matable with the perforating apparatus, and wherein the tool is settable in the wellbore casing.

Multiple Dart Drop Circulating Tool

US Patent:
7520336, Apr 21, 2009
Filed:
Jan 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/654350
Inventors:
Maximiliano Mondelli - Houston TX, US
George Krieg - Youngsville LA, US
David Hebert - Scott LA, US
David Robinson - Cypress TX, US
Assignee:
BJ Services Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 34/14
E21B 23/00
US Classification:
166386, 166318, 166331
Abstract:
A downhole device used to divert fluid flow out of a work string. The downhole device may be located at any point along a work string at which it may be necessary to divert the fluid flow to the annulus. The downhole device may be activated and deactivated by inserting a single deformable dart into the work string. The device catches the dart blocking fluid flow through the work string. Increased fluid pressure activates the device, which diverts the fluid flow out of the work string into the annulus. A locating sleeve with a continuous j-track allows the device to be retained in activated position. The dart is adapted to deform under a predetermined amount of fluid pressure allowing the dart past the device and returning fluid flow through the work string. The downhole device may be activated multiple times without removing the downhole device from the wellbore.

Fluid Actuated Circulating Sub

US Patent:
7766086, Aug 3, 2010
Filed:
Jun 8, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/811301
Inventors:
Maximiliano Mondelli - Houston TX, US
George Krieg - Youngsville LA, US
David Hebert - Scott LA, US
David Robinson - Cypress TX, US
Assignee:
BJ Services Company LLC - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 34/10
US Classification:
166374, 166331
Abstract:
A downhole device used to divert fluid flow out of a work string into an annulus. The downhole device is activated by the movement of a plurality of pistons within the downhole device. Fluid flow through a restriction of the downhole device creates an increase in fluid pressure causing the movement of the pistons. The pistons move a flow tube between various locations within the device. In one location, the flow tube prevents fluid flow to the annulus while in another location the flow tube allows fluid flow to be diverted into the annulus. The downhole device may include a locating sleeve having a continuous j-track allowing the flow tube to be selectively retained at the various locations within the downhole device. Fluid flow through the downhole is used to cycle the device between diverting fluid flow to the annulus and forcing fluid flow down the work string.

Expandable Mill And Methods Of Use

US Patent:
8141627, Mar 27, 2012
Filed:
Mar 26, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/411604
Inventors:
George N. Krieg - Broussard LA, US
David Hebert - Scott LA, US
Graham J. Duplantis - Lafayette LA, US
Assignee:
Baker Hughes Incorporated - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 37/00
US Classification:
166172, 166311, 166174
Abstract:
In some embodiments, apparatus useful for cleaning at least part of the interior surface of a cylindrically-shaped member disposed in a subterranean well includes a housing and a plurality of retractable mill blades supported on the housing. The mill blades of such embodiments are capable of cleaning the entire circumference of the interior surface of at least a portion of the cylindrically-shaped member upon reciprocation of the housing.

Displacement Annular Swivel

US Patent:
2006018, Aug 17, 2006
Filed:
Feb 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/057303
Inventors:
Neal Bracksieck - Tomball TX, US
David Hebert - Scott LA, US
International Classification:
E21B 33/035
E21B 21/00
US Classification:
166312000, 166088400
Abstract:
A displacement annular swivel is disclosed consisting of a mandrel with a sleeve assembly positioned around the outside diameter of the mandrel. The sleeve assembly consists of at least one radial bushing such that the mandrel can be rotated and reciprocated within the sleeve assembly when the sleeve assembly is fixed in a stationary position. At least one sealing element is present on the sleeve assembly to radially seal against the outside diameter of the mandrel. A method for displacing drilling mud from a completed subsea wellbore is also disclosed consisting of closing a blowout preventer around the aforementioned tool connected to the work string. The tool thereby allows the work string to be rotated and reciprocated when the blowout preventer is closed. Drilling fluid can then be displaced from the wellbore by pumping a fluid such as completion brine through the work string and out the choke and kill lines.
