Cameras, Methods, And Systems With Partial-Shading Encodements

US Patent:
6728483, Apr 27, 2004
Filed:
Oct 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/269715
Inventors:
David C. Smart - Fairport NY
Anthony Dirisio - Rochester NY
Joel S. Lawther - Rochester NY
Robert L. Walker - Penfield NY
Edward B. Gindele - Rochester NY
David A. Hodder - Spencerport NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03B 1724
US Classification:
396311, 396316
Abstract:
A camera has a body and a film holder having an exposure frame surrounding an exposure opening. A taking lens system is mounted to the body. The taking lens system has an optical axis. The taking lens system transmits a scene image through the exposure opening. A screener is mounted to the body. The screener is movable, relative to the exposure frame, between a primary position and a plurality of different secondary positions. The screener shadows the exposure frame differently in each secondary position. The exposure frame is unshaded when the screener is in the primary position.

Security Label Laminate And Method Of Labeling

US Patent:
8360323, Jan 29, 2013
Filed:
Jul 31, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/183284
Inventors:
Myra T. Olm - Webster NY, US
David A. Hodder - Spencerport NY, US
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G06K 19/02
US Classification:
235488, 235491, 235487
Abstract:
A labeling method for marking a product with invisible information. The label includes a removable laminate formed from a light transmissive layer, and a light transmissive adhesive that detachably affixes the label to a product. The label includes an invisible marker that contains information, detectable by light of selected wavelength. The amount of marker selected is sufficient to allow information in the marker to be detected only when the laminate is affixed over a surface with a selected optical background. The label laminate is removed from the surface of the product and affixed to a surface having the selected optical background and is exposed to light that renders the information in the marker detectable. The method allows covert information in the label laminate to be reliably detected and read with the use of minimal quantities of marker material.

System And Method For Providing A Customized Imaging Product Or Service

US Patent:
2003022, Dec 11, 2003
Filed:
Jun 6, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/163539
Inventors:
Joseph Manico - Rochester NY, US
David Hodder - Spencerport NY, US
Dale McIntyre - Honeoye Falls NY, US
John Fredlund - Rochester NY, US
International Classification:
H04N005/225
US Classification:
348/207990
Abstract:
A system and method for providing a customized imaging product. In a preferred embodiment, the system comprises an input device for providing custom information; a radio-frequency device for encoding the custom information in a radio-frequency identification transponder disposed on or within an imaging product to produce the customized imaging product; and a delivery section for dispensing the customized imaging product to a user.

Data Frame Having Database Access Information

US Patent:
2006013, Jun 22, 2006
Filed:
Dec 22, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/022154
Inventors:
Steven Sitter - Fairport NY, US
John Fredlund - Rochester NY, US
David Hodder - Spencerport NY, US
International Classification:
G06F 3/12
US Classification:
358001150
Abstract:
In a photofinishing method an image unit is received. The image unit has a plurality of image frames including a data frame and a plurality of non-data frames. The data frame bears access information for a database. The image frames are printed. The access information is readable on a print of the data frame. The image frames are transmitted to the database. In the database, the data frame is extracted and the access information is read. The access information on the print of the data frame can be used to access the non-data frames in the database for retrieval or to obtain additional prints or other output.

Camera Viewfinder

US Patent:
5229808, Jul 20, 1993
Filed:
Jan 22, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/823940
Inventors:
Alan V. VanDeMoere - Rochester NY
David A. Hodder - Spencerport NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03B 700
US Classification:
354411
Abstract:
In a photographic camera, a neutral density or other light reducing filter in the viewfinder obscures details of a subject viewed through the viewfinder in low light to provide a warning that ambient light is insufficient for a proper daylight exposure. The filter has little or no light reducing capability at a central portion and along a peripheral portion to serve as aiming and framing features, respectively.

Multiple Exposure-Format Camera

US Patent:
5640640, Jun 17, 1997
Filed:
Mar 7, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/612039
Inventors:
Alfred Bruce Fant - Rochester NY
Daniel Loyd Guilliams - Hilton NY
David Allan Hodder - Spencerport NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03B 1700
US Classification:
396435
Abstract:
A multiple exposure-format camera comprises an exposure opening having an aspect ratio, and a flexible curtain-mask provided with a plurality of mask openings having respective aspect ratios that are different than the aspect ratio of the exposure opening. The curtain-mask is supported for movement from one storage chamber to another storage chamber to successively locate the mask openings at the exposure opening to change the aspect ratio for the exposure opening. At least one of the storage chambers is configured to receive a film container to store a portion of the curtain-mask about the film container. This allows the camera to be made relatively compact.

Single Use Photographic Film Package And Camera

US Patent:
5452033, Sep 19, 1995
Filed:
Jun 6, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/254337
Inventors:
Edward N. Balling - Rochester NY
David A. Hodder - Spencerport NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03B 100
G03B 1702
US Classification:
354212
Abstract:
A recyclable, single use photographic film package and camera comprising a light-tight camera mechanism having a frame forming exposure gate, a roll of unexposed film withdrawn from its cartridge and pre-wound on a film takeup spool disposed on one side of the exposure gate, the cartridge disposed on the other side of the exposure gate, and an externally operable film winding thumbwheel for winding the filmstrip through the exposure gate and back into its cartridge as the film is exposed frame by frame. When all frames are exposed, the exposed film is removed and processed, and the package is recycled by substituting a fresh film cartridge and new packaging for resale. To prevent unauthorized reuse of the camera mechanism by refilling it with other than genuine film, a component of the takeup spool is intentionally damaged upon winding the last image frame into the film cartridge. The damaged takeup spool is not usable to pre-wind the substitute filmstrip onto it and must be replaced by an authorized recycler of the film package.

Method For Keeping Photographic Film Current

US Patent:
6144807, Nov 7, 2000
Filed:
Dec 28, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/221425
Inventors:
David C. Smart - Fairport NY
David Cipolla - Macedon NY
David A. Hodder - Spencerport NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03B 1724
US Classification:
396311
Abstract:
A method keeps photographic film current. In the method, a logical memory unit is allocated to the photographic film unit. The logical memory unit is remote from the film unit. A plurality of photofinishing parameters for the film unit are designated. The logical memory unit is maintained for a time period sufficient to cause aging. The photofinishing parameters are updated counteractive to the aging and photofinishing can then be performed using the updated parameters for the film unit.
