The connector comprises a conductive lid; a ferrule disposed within an opening through the conductive lid; a conductive center pin disposed within the ferrule; and a hermetic seal formed between the pin and an interior surface of the ferrule. A mating terminal connector adapted to be connected to the ferrule and the conductive center pin is further provided. The terminal connector is a device for easily and quickly connecting the cell to a circuit board of the kind found in an implantable medical device, such as a cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator, neuro-stimulator, drug pump, and the like.

A unitary lid for the casing of an electrochemical energy storage device is described. The lid has a terminal lead ferrule and a fill port formed from a single blank in a machine process. The lid does not require any welding except for securing it to the open end of a casing container. The ferrule supports a terminal lead insulated therefrom by glass. A thermoplastic insulator material encases the ferrule and a portion of the terminal lead extending below the lid. In that manner, the insulator helps prevent contact between the anode and the cathode in the vicinity of the lid.

The connector comprises a conductive lid including a wall, and an opening therethrough; a ferrule comprised of a conductive hollow cylindrical body having a central axis, an interior surface, an exterior surface, an outer end, and an inner end, the inner end disposed within the opening through the wall of the conductive lid; a conductive center pin disposed within the hollow cylindrical body of the ferrule and aligned along the central axis thereof, thereby forming an annular cavity between an elongated surface of the center pin and the interior surface of the ferrule; and a hermetic seal formed in the annular cavity. A mating terminal connector adapted to be connected to the ferrule and the conductive center pin is further provided. An electrochemical cell with a non-prismatic casing and solid cathode is the present invention. The casing has a front side wall, a back side wall, a right side wall, a left side wall, a top wall, and bottom wall. The non-prismatic function is obtained by having the right and left side walls having tapered widths—wide near the top wall and narrower near the bottom wall. A solid anode having a uniform height is positioned against the front side wall and/or the back side wall. A solid cathode is surrounded by a separator and has at least a tapered height to correspond to the tapered right and left side walls wherein the anode's front side is parallel with the front major sidewall and the anode's back side is parallel with the back major sidewall. This non-prismatic design decreases the formation of voids and maximizes the amount of cathode in non-prismatic casing designs to obtain the optimal electrochemical capabilities.
