Nonadjustable Throttle Linkage And Internal Combustion Engine Employing Same

US Patent:
6484706, Nov 26, 2002
Filed:
May 15, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/570642
Inventors:
David W. Mate - McHenry IL
Assignee:
Bombardier Motor Corporation of America - Grant FL
International Classification:
F02D 910
US Classification:
123583
Abstract:
A throttle linkage for an internal combustion engine includes a lever assembly that is configured to connect an operator-manipulated input element to an output element that controls at least a throttle of the engine. At least one stop pin is mounted on the lever assembly and is configured to engage a stationary seat when the lever assembly is in one of a full-open position and an idle position. The stop pin is axially locked with respect to the lever assembly so as to be axially nonadjustable relative to it. If the stop pin is screwed into the lever assembly, a head of the stop pin preferably faces the associated stationary seat so as to be relatively inaccessible after the throttle linkage is mounted on the engine. The head may also be covered by a cap to further hinder tampering with the stop pin. As a result of this arrangement, the operating stroke of the lever assembly is preset upon initial assembly of the lever assembly and cannot be adjusted.

Thermostat Cover With Snap-In Nipple

US Patent:
5170752, Dec 15, 1992
Filed:
Feb 25, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/841048
Inventors:
Gregory J. Binversie - Grayslake IL
David W. Mate - McHenry IL
Assignee:
Outboard Marine Corporation - Waukegan IL
International Classification:
F01P 714
US Classification:
123 4108
Abstract:
A thermostat cover assembly for a external combustion motor of the type which has a thermostat control valve with a thermostatically actuated spring for controlling the flow of coolant through the cylinder bank of the motor to maintain a predetermined coolant temperature, the motor having an outer protective cowling. The thermostat cover includes at least one intake nipple having a first end and a second end. The nipple is configured for releasably accepting an intake hose. The thermostat cover further includes a mounting plate having a front side and a rear side. The mounting plate is configured to receive the intake nipple so that the nipple may be engaged to the plate in a plurality of specified orientations. The plate also has nipple fastening means for releasably securing the nipple to said plate.

Internal Combustion Engine

US Patent:
5035211, Jul 30, 1991
Filed:
Apr 23, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/512797

International Classification:
F02M 3500
F02M 3504
F02M 3512
US Classification:
123198E
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine comprising an engine block including a cylinder and a combustion air passage for supplying combustion air to the cylinder, an air silencer communicating with the combustion air passage, and an elastic connector for securing the air silencer to the engine block.

Internal Combustion Engine With Recessed Intake Manifold

US Patent:
5005535, Apr 9, 1991
Filed:
Feb 20, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/482932
Inventors:
Gregory J. Binversie - Grayslake IL
James E. Macier - Beach Park IL
David W. Mate - McHenry IL
Assignee:
Outboard Marine Corporation - Waukegan IL
International Classification:
F02M 3510
US Classification:
123 52M
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine comprising an engine member including an intake manifold mounting face having therein a series of openings, an intake manifold including an exterior surface comprising an engine mounting surface on the manifold mounting face, and a carburetor mounting surface in spaced relation to the engine mounting surface, and a like series of intake passages extending between the mounting surfaces, terminating at the engine mounting surface in respective openings respectively located in alignment with the openings in the manifold mounting face, and terminating at the carburetor mounting surface in respective openings, a drain re-circulation system for delivering drains accumulating in the intake passages to intake passages other than the intake passages in which the drains accumulated, a system for supplying primer fuel to the intake passages, and a system for supplying operating fuel to a like series of carburetors, and a like series of carburetors on the carburetor mounting surface, which carburetors respectively include air induction passages respectively communicating with the openings in the carburetor mounting surface, and respective fuel inlet ports respectively communicating with the operating fuel supply system in the intake manifold.
