As a result of the efforts of this team, the SONGS procedure for electrical safety is now in line with the procedures at industry best plants. The knowledge and skill of the electrical workforces is greatly increased, and the awareness of electrical safety has been significantly improved in other work groups including I&C maintenance, facilities maintenance, engineering, chemistry, construction (PMO) and operations. The training supported a marked reduction in the number of electrical safety practice violations over the past six months and elimination of serious violations and near-miss accidents. Post-training evaluation showed that there were zero violations due to skill or knowledge gaps in the six months following training, despite the challenging outage environment. This directly supports our building blocks of organizational excellence and operational focus. The training that was provided to electrical workers was top notch, based on feedback from students and managers alike. Perhaps the greatest testimonials came from the contract electrician workers, who stated that this training was better than what they had learned from their union hall and would help them stay alive in a dangerous field of work.
Finalist for Southern California Edisons Chairman Award
Ted Craver, Chairman, President & CEO of EIX
The Chairman’s Award is a company recognition and values education program that celebrates employees’ outstanding performance – people who go above and beyond the call of duty while living Edison International’s values and guiding behaviors. I was one of sixty finalists out of Edison International.
