Multiple Die Industrial Process Control Transmitter

US Patent:
6480131, Nov 12, 2002
Filed:
Aug 10, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/636152
Inventors:
Weston R. Roper - St. Louis Park MN
David G. Tyson - Eden Prairie MN
Brian L. Westfield - Victoria MN
Michael J. Gaboury - Burnsville MN
Assignee:
Rosemount Inc. - Eden Prairie MN
International Classification:
H03M 112
US Classification:
341155, 341118, 341119, 341156
Abstract:
A two-wire industrial process control transmitter includes a sensor, at least two integrated circuits, and a level shift circuit. The first integrated circuit contains the analog measurement circuit that includes a sensor detection circuit and the analog portion of a digital-to-analog convertor. The second integrated circuit contains the digital system circuit that includes a modem and the digital portion of the analog-to-digital convertor. The first and second ICs may be powered at different voltage levels to maximize the power of the analog circuit and improve resolution. Alternatively, the ICs may be powered at the same voltage level, but the digital circuits are divided among several stacked dies to minimize the voltage for each digital circuit. In either case, the level shifting circuit shifts the voltage level between the analog and digital circuits.

Modular Process Transmitter Having A Scalable Emi/Rfi Filtering Architecture

US Patent:
6593857, Jul 15, 2003
Filed:
Jul 31, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/638181
Inventors:
Weston Roper - St. Louis Park MN
Todd M. Berge - Eden Prairie MN
David G. Tyson - Eden Prairie MN
Brian L. Westfield - Victoria MN
Richard L. Nelson - Chanhassen MN
Assignee:
Rosemount Inc. - Eden Prairie MN
International Classification:
G08C 1900
US Classification:
3408703, 3408704, 361679, 361728, 73756
Abstract:
A modular process transmitter having a scalable EMI/RFI filtering architecture includes a unitized sensor module and a transmitter module. The unitized sensor module is adapted to operate as a stand-alone process transmitter. The transmitter module can couple to the unitized sensor module to expand the capabilities of the unitized sensor module. The unitized sensor module includes a sensor housing, a sensor circuit and a removable sensor EMI/RFI filtering circuit. The sensor circuit provides a sensor output in accordance with either a local format or a first communication protocol. The sensor EMI/RFI filtering circuit filters noise in accordance with the first communication protocol. The transmitter module includes a transmitter module housing, a communications circuit, and a transmitter module EMI/RFI filtering circuit. The communications circuit is adapted to receive the sensor output from the sensor circuit in the local format and generate a scalable output in accordance with a second communication protocol. The transmitter module EMI/RFI filtering circuit is adapted to replace the sensor EMI/RFI filtering circuit and filter noise in accordance with the second communication protocol.

Process Transmitter Having A Step-Up Converter For Powering Analog Components

US Patent:
6813318, Nov 2, 2004
Filed:
Apr 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/303050
Inventors:
Brian L. Westfield - Victoria MN
Weston T. Roper - Chanhassen MN
David G. Tyson - Eden Prairie MN
Assignee:
Rosemount Inc, - Eden Prairie MN
International Classification:
H04L 2720
US Classification:
375295, 34087021
Abstract:
A process transmitter suitable for coupling to a process loop. The process transmitter includes a power regulator adapted to receive a power signal on the process loop and to provide a first signal having a first voltage. Digital components of the process transmitter are electrically coupled to the power regulator to receive power from the first signal. A step-up converter is electrically coupled to the power regulator and receives the first signal. The step-up converter outputs a second signal having a second voltage larger than the first voltage. Analog components of the process transmitter are electrically coupled to the step-up converter to receive power from the second signal.

Differential Pressure Sensor With Line Pressure Measurement

US Patent:
8234927, Aug 7, 2012
Filed:
Jun 8, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/796023
Inventors:
John P. Schulte - Eden Prairie MN, US
David G. Tyson - Eden Prairie MN, US
Andrew J. Klosinski - Waconia MN, US
Assignee:
Rosemount Inc. - Eden Prairie MN
International Classification:
G01L 9/12
US Classification:
73718, 73724
Abstract:
A pressure sensor assembly for sensing a pressure of a process fluid includes a sensor body having a cavity formed therein and first and second openings to the cavity configured to apply first and second pressures. A diaphragm in the cavity separates the first opening from the second opening and is configured to deflect in response to a differential pressure between the first pressure and the second pressure. A capacitance based deformation sensor is provided and configured to sense deformation of the sensor body in response to a line pressure applied to the sensor body.

High-Temperature Pressure Sensing

US Patent:
2016009, Mar 31, 2016
Filed:
Sep 30, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/501617
Inventors:
- Chanhassen MN, US
David Glen Tyson - Eden Prairie MN, US
International Classification:
G01L 9/12
Abstract:
A pressure sensing system includes a hot zone electronics module, a cool zone electronics module and a plurality of conductors that connect the hot zone electronics to the cool zone electronics. The hot zone electronics module includes a capacitive pressure sensor and an oscillator that provides an oscillating signal to the capacitive pressure sensor. The hot zone electronics provides at least one DC sensor signal. The cool zone electronics module converts the at least one DC sensor signal into a pressure value and provides a DC power signal. The plurality of conductors convey the DC power signal to the hot zone electronics and convey the at least one DC sensor signal to the cool zone electronics.

Process Variable Transmitter With Variable Frequency Clock Circuit For Rejection Of Clock Synchronous Noise

US Patent:
2015000, Jan 1, 2015
Filed:
Jun 28, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/930165
Inventors:
- Chanhassen MN, US
David G. Tyson - Eden Prairie MN, US
John P. Schulte - Eden Prairie MN, US
Eugene Korolev - Maple Grove MN, US
Assignee:
ROSEMOUNT INC. - Chanhassen MN
International Classification:
H04L 25/08
H04L 25/06
H04L 7/00
US Classification:
375296
Abstract:
In a process variable transmitter, a sensor signal is sampled, using a clock signal, at a sensor sampling frequency. Interference is also sampled at the sensor sampling frequency. A comparison is made to determine whether the interference at the sensor sampling frequency or harmonics of the sensor sampling frequency exceed a threshold level. If so, the clock signal is changed to adjust the sensor sampling frequency away from the frequency of the interference.
