Active Electronic Noise Suppression System And Method For Reducing Snoring Noise

US Patent:
5844996, Dec 1, 1998
Filed:
May 30, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/866378
Inventors:
Dieter Enzmann - Menlo Park CA
Anthony F. Matouk - Los Altos CA
Ahmet Karakasoglu - Palo Alto CA
Chin N. Hung - Santa Clara CA
James S. Abbott - San Francisco CA
Assignee:
Sleep Solutions, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
A61F 1106
US Classification:
381116
Abstract:
A system for attenuating noise which can be sensed by the auditory nerve comprising a microphone positioned in a first sound region for sensing noise present in the first sound region for creating a first electrical signal having a frequency and amplitude corresponding to the noise sensed in the first sound region. Circuitry is provided for processing the first electrical signal to create a second electrical signal having the same frequency but of opposite amplitude and sign of the first electrical signal. A speaker is provided for converting the second electrical signal to anti-noise for attenuation of the sensed noise in a second sound region spaced from the first sound region. A microphone is disposed in the second sound region for detecting any noise above a predetermined noise level in the second sound region to provide an error correction signal. Circuitry is provided responsive to the error correction signal to modify the second electrical signal to bring the noise in the second sound region so that it is below a predetermined noise level.

System And Method For Catheter Placement In Blood Vessels Of A Human Patient

US Patent:
4468224, Aug 28, 1984
Filed:
Jan 28, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/343435
Inventors:
Dieter R. Enzmann - Mountain View CA
Ingemar Lundquist - Oakland CA
Assignee:
Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
A61M 500
US Classification:
604247
Abstract:
A kit of instruments for percutaneous introduction of a catheter into a major blood vessel of a human patient, including a hollow needle assembly having a proximal end adapted to be inserted through the skin of a patient into the blood vessel, a guide wire adapted to be inserted through the needle into the blood vessel, and a catheter having a proximal end adapted to be inserted into the blood vessel over the guide wire after said needle is withdrawn over said guide wire. The hollow needle assembly includes a first small gauge hollow needle having a beveled needle point on the front end thereof, and at least a second hollow needle mounted concentrically over the first needle and having a sharp chisel-shaped front edge located a moderate distance behind the point on said first needle. The needle assembly further comprises a pair of outboard wings mounted thereto and adapted to be readily grasped for inserting said needle into the blood vessel; and a transparent backbleeding evaluation housing mounted to the rear of said needle assembly, the backbleeding housing has an internal chamber communicating with the interior bore of the first needle and is adapted to be filled with blood from said blood vessel when the point of said needle assembly is inserted therein. The backbleeding chamber has a rear port adapted to admit the guide wire for insertion through the internal bore of the needle into the blood vessel.

Active Noise Suppression System For Telephone Handsets And Method

US Patent:
5625684, Apr 29, 1997
Filed:
Mar 4, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/206462
Inventors:
Anthony F. Matouk - Los Altos CA
Dieter Enzmann - Menlo Park CA
Ahmet Karakasoglu - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Local Silence, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
H04M 100
US Classification:
379387
Abstract:
System for use by a caller and a recipient of a telephone call for suppressing environmental noise in the vicinity of a telephone comprising a telephone handset forming a part of the telephone. The telephone handset has a human voice sensor for picking up human sounds generally in one direction, and creating a first electrical signal. A speaker capable of producing substantially directional human voice sounds is provided. A second sound sensor is carried by the handset and has sound pick-up capabilities from a direction which is generally opposite said one direction for picking up external environmental noise in the vicinity of the handset and producing a second electrical signal having a frequency and amplitude. Electrical circuitry is provided for processing the second electrical signal to provide a third electrical signal of the same frequency as the second electrical signal but of opposite amplitude and sign and for combining the third electrical signal with the first electrical signal to suppress environmental noise present in the first electrical signal so that the recipient will receive an electrical signal in which the environmental noise in the vicinity of the caller has been suppressed.
