Erosion Resistant Gasket

US Patent:
4325559, Apr 20, 1982
Filed:
May 12, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/149120
Inventors:
Daniel E. Czernik - Hinsdale IL
Donald J. McDowell - Riverside IL
Assignee:
Felt Products Mfg. Co. - Skokie IL
International Classification:
F16J 1506
US Classification:
277235B
Abstract:
A multi-layer engine gasket is provided for resisting scoring, scratching and abrasive-erosion. The gasket assembly includes a flat-elongated core or base, a sheet of composite gasket material on each face of the base, armor to seal the combustion chambers, and an exterior layer of erosion resistant material applied to the facing sheets along one or more of the two shorter ends of the gasket assembly. Apertures are provided for the combustion chambers, the water and fluid passageways and the head bolts. The abrasive-erosion resistant layer is a mixture of molybdenum disulfide and graphite, preferably with a minor amount of a binder and adhesion promoter. The abrasive-erosion resistant layer is selectively applied to the end zones of the gasket assembly.

High-Strength Anaerobic Sealants Containing N-Nitrosoamine Modifier

US Patent:
4166169, Aug 28, 1979
Filed:
May 22, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/908253
Inventors:
Purshottam S. Patel - Elk Grove Village IL
Donald J. McDowell - Riverside IL
Assignee:
Felt Products Mfg. Co. - Skokie IL
International Classification:
C09J 314
C08K 508
C08K 522
US Classification:
526313
Abstract:
An anaerobic sealant composition capable of polymerizing upon exclusion of air comprises (1) a polymerizable mixture of polyacrylic ester monomer which includes a polyacrylic ester derived from alkoxylated bisphenol-type compounds, (2) an inorganic salt initiator which can be a persulfate or a perchlorate of ammonium, alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, (3) a polymerization accelerator which can be a secondary or a tertiary amine, a N,N-di(lower alkyl)amide of a monocarboxylic aliphatic acid, an organic carboximide of a polycarboxylic acid, or an organic sulfimide of a carboxylic acid, or mixtures of the foregoing, (4) a N-nitrosoamine, and (5) a quinone-type polymerization inhibitor. The composition is prepared by compounding the aforementioned ingredients and suitably aging the resulting formulation.

Data Structure For A Relational Database System For Collecting Component And Specification Level Data Related To Products

US Patent:
5675784, Oct 7, 1997
Filed:
May 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/454708
Inventors:
John E. Maxwell - Claredon Hills IL
Donald J. McDowell - Wheaton IL
Stephen W. Schaefle - Wheaton IL
Assignee:
International Business Machnes Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1760
G06F 1730
US Classification:
395611
Abstract:
A relational database system allows users to search for specific products based on component criteria. The relational database system allows for unlimited number and type of components to be associated with products and employs a data architecture that enforces consistent product data including consistent description format among like products and consistent component descriptions whenever components are used in products. Product and component specification data is arranged in such a way as to allow users to search for specific products based on component criteria. The structure allows for an unlimited number and type of components to be associated with products and can accommodate future technologies that are not yet identified. The database system employs a series of tables having relationships that promote consistency, accuracy and ease of use by employing selection lists wherever data redundancy is possible. The database system automatically concatenates product descriptions using a component table.

Roadway Joint Seal And Sealing Assembly

US Patent:
4111583, Sep 5, 1978
Filed:
May 23, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/799594
Inventors:
John F. Brady - Wood Dale IL
Donald J. McDowell - Riverside IL
Assignee:
Felt Products Mfg. Co. - Skokie IL
International Classification:
E01C 1104
US Classification:
404 69
Abstract:
A sealing system for roadway expansion joint gaps and the like. A continuous seal is provided comprising an elongated central arched segment, a pair of longitudinally extending legs, and a protrusion extending upwardly from each of the legs. The seal embeds at least one fabric reinforcement layer to stiffen, rigidify and strengthen the seal means and the protrusions. The seal is secured to each roadway slab between a horizontal surface and a retainer which defines an elongated recess for sealingly receiving, engaging and compressing a protrusion. A limiter is provided for limiting the compression of the protrusions, and a retainer lip is provided for visually indicating that sealing of a protrusion has been effected.
