Induction Heating System For Reduced Switch Stress

US Patent:
6943329, Sep 13, 2005
Filed:
Sep 25, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/671063
Inventors:
Edmund J. Ring - Circle Pines MN, US
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
H05B006/04
US Classification:
219661
Abstract:
An induction heating system is provided. The induction heating system comprises a power switch, a resonant heating circuit, and a pulse initiator. The resonant heating circuit is configured to generate an oscillating voltage in response to a DC pulse input. The pulse initiator is positioned across the power switch and configured to monitor a voltage across the power switch and to initiate application of a subsequent DC pulse to the resonant heating circuit upon detecting a substantially zero voltage crossing at the power switch during a first cycle of the oscillating voltage.

Induction Heating System With Resonance Detection

US Patent:
6943330, Sep 13, 2005
Filed:
Sep 25, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/671069
Inventors:
Edmund J. Ring - Circle Pines MN, US
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
H05B006/04
US Classification:
219661
Abstract:
An induction heating is provided. The induction heating system comprises a power switch, a resonant heating circuit, and a pulse initiator. The resonant heating circuit is configured to be coupled to a load and configured to generate an oscillating voltage in response to a DC pulse input having a DC voltage level. The pulse initiator is configured to provide a monitoring voltage having a value representative of an average value of a peak voltage of the oscillating voltage generated by the resonant heating circuit and to provide a pulse initiation signal to initiate application of a subsequent DC pulse to the resonant circuit when the value of the monitoring voltage is substantially equal to or less than a predetermined threshold value.

Inductive Heating Device Including An Inductive Coupling Assembly

US Patent:
2005009, May 5, 2005
Filed:
Oct 31, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/698286
Inventors:
Edmund Ring - Circle Pines MN, US
International Classification:
H05B006/02
H05B006/04
US Classification:
219600000
Abstract:
An inductive heating device is disclosed having a power supply, an inductive coupling assembly, and an inductor core. The power supply includes a primary coil. The inductive coupling assembly includes an inductive coupling sleeve coupled to a first end of a cable assembly, where the inductive coupling sleeve has a secondary coil positioned therein. In this regard, the inductive coupling assembly is configured to removably couple the cable assembly to the power supply in inductively coupling the inductor core between the primary coil and the secondary coil.

Vehicle Tracking System Incorporating Traffic Signal Preemption

US Patent:
5602739, Feb 11, 1997
Filed:
Nov 22, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/562352
Inventors:
Jeffrey D. Haagenstad - Roseville MN
Steven M. Hamer - Willernie MN
Ronald A. Hagen - Grant Township MN
Edmund J. Ring - Circle Pines MN
Kim K. Christopher - Woodbury MN
Theodore B. Keyes - St. Paul MN
Assignee:
Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
G08G 107
US Classification:
364436
Abstract:
An embedded system controller-based vehicle tracking system using vehicle positioning. An embedded system controller controls a traffic intersection using an optical system. The embedded system controller receives a vehicle location and a vehicle schedule. The embedded system controller calculates whether the vehicle is on time and reports the on-time status to the driver interface. The driver may -request that the system report a panic or emergency situation to the dispatch center through an external data communications network. The external data communications network may also send vehicle status, such as vehicle position and vehicle condition. A transit company using the system may provide vehicles equipped with the vehicle tracking system with schedules on a daily basis, using a portable data transfer device. The embedded system controller also communicates to the vehicle data network for the communication of vehicle position. A global positioning system receiver may be used to provide the position of the vehicle to the embedded system controller.
