Roger Woehl - Novato CA
Assignee:
Icore International, Inc. - Santa Rosa CA
International Classification:
H01B 734
US Classification:
174 36, 174122 R
Abstract:
A lightweight flexible conduit particularly suitable for aircraft applications for shielding electrical wire and cable from electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference. The apparatus including an inner core of elastically deformable flexible tubing having an outside surface of helical corrugations, metalized fabric wrapped around the helical corrugations and post-formed onto the corrugated helix of the core by string, thread, or wire which pulls the fabric down into the base of the continuous trough of the corrugations, and a protective jacket. A preferred embodiment of the present invention includes an axial drain wire incorporated into the lamination and running the length of the conduit to provide lower ground path resistance.

Strain Relief For Electrical Fittings

US Patent:
5917148, Jun 29, 1999
Filed:
Mar 19, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/828829
Inventors:
Roger Woehl - Healdsburg CA
Edward P. Goett - Healdsburg CA
International Classification:
H05K 900
US Classification:
174 35C
Abstract:
A strain relief for electrical fittings includes a body portion having a pair of ends, the first end for attachment to a connector, and the second end having a worm drive clamp for releasable clamping upon a cable. The strain relief may include a flexible boot to provide a sealing function, or a flexible tube of braided shielding wire to provide EMI shielding.

Field Repairable Conduit Termination System

US Patent:
5782270, Jul 21, 1998
Filed:
Dec 16, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/767570
Inventors:
Edward P. Goett - Geyserville CA
Roger Woehl - Rohnert Park CA
Assignee:
Engineered Transistions, Inc. - Healdsburg CA
International Classification:
F16L 1111
US Classification:
138109
Abstract:
A cable termination system for heavy duty cables having a threaded metallic or plastic shield includes only two members; a termination body and a termination nut, the former having internal threads mating with an internal thread shield of the cable and the latter having rounded internal threads mating with rounded external threads of the termination to clamp at least the outer braids of the cable between the external threads of the termination and the internal threads of the termination nut. The termination body is screwed onto the shield and provides an annular pocket to receive the end of the shield to protect the wires of the cable from burrs and sharp edges at the end of the shield. The internal threads of the termination have a different pitch from those of its external threads whereby the threads bind the termination nut and prevent it from becoming unscrewed from the cable. The termination nut is locked in place by snap rings and its end seats against an O-ring to isolate it from the environment while the other end of the nut engages a projection on the termination body to seat the outer covering of the cable between the two elements of the system.

Vibration Resistant Electrical Coupling

US Patent:
4834667, May 30, 1989
Filed:
Sep 7, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/241322
Inventors:
Clifford C. Fowler - Chatsworth CA
Edward P. Goett - Geyserville CA
Assignee:
Engineered Transitions Co., Inc. - Geyserville CA
International Classification:
H01R 13623
US Classification:
439321
Abstract:
A connector accessory for electrical connectors containing a detent or locking member or members for preventing disconnection from an attached connector when the assembly is subjected to vibration, shock or other stresses. The accessory consists of a coupling and a body containing the accessory which in one form is a detent and in another form serves as a detent in one direction of rotation and a permanent or temporary lock in the other direction of rotation. The coupling is provided with screw threads to engage an accessory thread at the rear of an electrical connector and the body contains features which are required to provide proper mechanical and environmental interface characteristics to mate with various electrical connectors, i. e. , teeth, splines, seals, etc. When the accessory is mated to an electrical connector, the rotation of the coupling is restricted by a spring and tooth mechanism interfacing between the coupling and the body to prevent the coupling from counter-rotating and allowing the accessory to become loosened or separate from the back of the connector.

Shielded Conduit

US Patent:
4376229, Mar 8, 1983
Filed:
Sep 16, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/187663
Inventors:
Frederick E. Maul - Milpitas CA
Edward P. Goett - Geyserville CA
Assignee:
Raychem Corporation - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
H05K 900
H01B 734
US Classification:
174 35R
Abstract:
Flexible electrical shielding conduit and method for making same wherein the conduit comprises multiple layers including a flexible conduit tubing outer layer, an electrical shielding layer disposed within the tubing and in contact with the conduit layer, and a woven retaining layer inside the shielding layer, said woven retaining layer expanding radially outwardly when compressed axially continuously forcing the shielding layer into contact with the conduit tubing to provide an unobstructed passageway therethrough. An alternative embodiment and the method for making same wherein the electrical shielding layer and the retaining layer are combined to form an integral inner layer having the properties as described above.

Vibration Resistant Locking Coupling

US Patent:
5192219, Mar 9, 1993
Filed:
Sep 17, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/761303
Inventors:
Clifford C. Fowler - Chatsworth CA
Edward P. Goett - Geyserville CA
Assignee:
Engineered Transitions Co., Inc. - Healdsburg CA
International Classification:
H01R 438
US Classification:
439321
Abstract:
The invention provides a locking coupling having a hollow cylindrical body with a circumferential ring of axially extending radial teeth, a first coaxial collar having a plurality of spring fingers extending axially therefrom with inwardly directed, axially extending teeth overlying the teeth on said body and a coaxial locking collar slidably mounted on said body between two positions and having a region overlying the spring fingers, the locking collar forcing the teeth on the spring fingers into engagement with the teeth on the body in one position and permitting the teeth to become disengaged in the other position.

Locking Coupling

US Patent:
5653605, Aug 5, 1997

Edward P. Goett - Geyserville CA
International Classification:
H01R 438
US Classification:
439321
Abstract:
A locking coupling primarily for backshell connectors includes basically a main cylindrical body through which wires pass to an electrical connector, a coupling collar for connecting the backshell to the connector and a locking collar in one position permitting the coupling collar to rotate relative to the main body and in a second position locking this coupling collar to the main body, the main body having a circumferential ring of radial and axially extending teeth, a pawl having teeth carried by the coupling collar in alignment with the teeth of the main body, the locking collar forcing the teeth of this pawl into tight engagement with the teeth of the main body in the locking position.
