Abstract:
The invention provides a method for removing metal oxides and colloidal material from high-resistivity water streams at a relatively high removal efficiency. The method includes hydrating a highly ionized dual morphology ion exchange resin in a macroreticular, desiccated morphology to produce a macroreticular, hydrated morphology. A water stream which is brought into contact with the resin is purified. The water stream may, optionally, also be contacted with both a cation exchange resin and an anion exchange resin. The invention additionally provides a method for selecting ion exchange resins which are particularly suited for use in removing metal oxides from a condensate stream. The method serves to narrow the field of candidates for pilot-scale resin testing with industrial water streams.

Abstract:
A process for scrubbing undissolved impurities from the upper portion of an ion exchange resin filtration bed is disclosed wherein air is introduced in the upper portion of the bed and develops a pressure within the vessel. This pressure subsequently forces rinse water down through the upper portion of the bed and out of the vessel. The gas is introduced into the bed and the water is drained therefrom at a level below the bed's upper surface but above a substantial lower portion of the resin bed. In this manner, lesser quantities of scrubbing fluids are required and the majority of the resin material is left undisturbed to maintain maximum ion exchange capacity.

The present invention relates to a method for purifying aqueous solutions or condensate in a three component resin system comprising a mixed bed of a strongly basic anion exchange resin, a strongly acidic cation exchange resin and a weakly acidic cation exchange resin.
