Directly Operated Pneumatic Valve Having A Differential Assist Return

US Patent:
7210501, May 1, 2007
Filed:
Sep 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/953701
Inventors:
Robert H Neff - Bloomfield Village MI, US
Eric P Janssen - Howell MI, US
Lynn R Long - Walled Lake MI, US
Assignee:
Mac Valves, Inc. - Wixom MI
International Classification:
F15B 13/044
F16K 39/02
US Classification:
13762565, 13762527, 251282
Abstract:
A fluid control valve includes a valve body having both fluid inlet and discharge ports. A flow passage axially extending within the valve body communicates with the inlet and discharge ports. A valve member within the flow passage is movable by an actuator force in a first direction to direct a pressurized fluid from the inlet to the discharge port. The valve member includes first and second valve heads having different diameters and a valve seating member. The valve seating member engages first and second sealing diameters of the flow passage, the second sealing diameter being smaller than the first. Fluid pressure acting on the different diameters of the first valve head and valve seating member in contact with the second sealing diameter creates a net return force directing the valve member in a second direction opposite to the first direction upon removal of the actuator force.

Balanced Solenoid Valve

US Patent:
8167000, May 1, 2012
Filed:
Jun 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/141419
Inventors:
Robert H. Neff - Bloomfield Village MI, US
Jeffrey Simmonds - Brighton MI, US
Eric P. Janssen - Howell MI, US
Assignee:
MAC Valves, Inc. - Wixom MI
International Classification:
F16K 11/07
US Classification:
13762569, 13762567, 25112918
Abstract:
A valve assembly includes a solenoid can having an internal coil. A valve body connected to the solenoid can includes an inlet port and a first valve seat. An axially adjustable retainer threadably connected to the valve body includes an end portion defining a second valve seat. A homogenous valve member/armature slidably disposed in the valve body moves in the presence of a coil generated magnetic flux between valve closed and valve open positions. A valve member/armature first surface area is in fluid communication with a pressurized fluid through the inlet port. A valve member/armature second surface area is in fluid communication with the pressurized fluid in the valve closed position. The first surface area is equal to the second surface area and the pressurized fluid acts equally on the first and second surface areas defining a pressure balanced condition in the valve closed position.

Rapid Response Solenoid For Electromagnetic Operated Valve

US Patent:
2006002, Feb 9, 2006
Filed:
Jul 27, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/191224
Inventors:
Robert Neff - Bloomfield Village MI, US
Eric Janssen - Howell MI, US
International Classification:
F15B 13/044
US Classification:
137625650
Abstract:
A solenoid for an electromagnetically operated valve includes a bobbin having a substantially rectangular or elliptical cross section, a pole plate stationary with respect to the bobbin, and an armature slidable within the bobbin in response to a magnetic field generated by the coil through the pole plate. A coil wound around the bobbin has a rectangular cross section which on a short axis side includes a width W. A relation between width W and a virtual cylindrical iron core of diameter D having the same cross sectional area as an armature cross sectional area is expressed as D=(0.4 to 0.8) W. A ratio of a length A of a long axis side of the armature to a length B of a short axis side of the armature has a range between 3.1≦(A/B)≦4.5.

Flux Bushing For Solenoid Actuator

US Patent:
2007017, Aug 2, 2007
Filed:
Feb 2, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/346537
Inventors:
Eric Janssen - Howell MI, US
Jeffrey Simmonds - Brighton MI, US
International Classification:
H01F 7/08
US Classification:
335270000
Abstract:
A solenoid valve actuator includes a coil bobbin having a coil disposed therein and a bushing body receiving aperture. A flux plate is connected to a first end of the coil bobbin and includes a flux plate surface area. A bushing is positioned between the flux plate and the coil bobbin. The bushing includes a flange portion having a flange area substantially equal to the flux plate surface area, and a body portion integrally joined to the flange portion and extending substantially perpendicular to the flange portion. An armature is slidably received within the receiving aperture of the bushing body portion.

Pressure Balanced Solenoid Operated Valve

US Patent:
2013020, Aug 15, 2013
Filed:
Feb 14, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/396202
Inventors:
Kevin C. Williams - Wixom MI, US
Eric Paul Janssen - Howell MI, US
Assignee:
MAC Valves, Inc. - Wixom MI
International Classification:
F16K 31/02
F16K 11/07
F15B 13/044
US Classification:
25112907, 25112915, 13762525, 251321
Abstract:
A pressure balanced solenoid operated valve includes a solenoid portion having a coil in a coil retainer. A valve member portion defines a body connected to the solenoid portion. A slidable valve member in the body has opposed first and second ends and a shoulder between the ends. The first end with the coil energized is magnetically drawn toward the coil retainer moving the valve member between a valve closed and a valve open position. A pressure equalizing passage extends in the valve member from the second end. An inlet passage communicates a pressurized fluid at a valve inlet port to the pressure equalizing passage. A connecting passage communicates between the pressure equalizing passage and the shoulder. The pressurized fluid in the pressure equalizing passage acts against the second end and equally and oppositely against both the shoulder and the first end in both the open and closed positions.

Self-Latching Solenoid Valve Assembly

US Patent:
6129115, Oct 10, 2000
Filed:
Jul 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/347043
Inventors:
Eric P. Janssen - Howell MI
Thomas R. Jones - Walled Lake MI
Assignee:
MAC Valves, Inc. - Wixom MI
International Classification:

US Classification:
13762565
Abstract:
A self-latching solenoid valve assembly including a valve body having a pressurized air supply inlet port for communicating with a source of pressurized air and at least one cylinder port. A valve member is supported in the valve body so as to be movable between predetermined positions to selectively direct pressurized air from the inlet port to at least one cylinder port. A biasing member is employed to move the valve member in one direction and a solenoid assembly is used to move the valve member in an opposite direction. The solenoid assembly includes a housing with a solenoid coil supported therein and a fixed ferromagnetic pole piece having a passage extending therethrough with a pushpin movably supported in the passage. A ferromagnetic latch is also supported by the housing and spaced from the pole piece. A permanent magnet is disposed between the latch and the pole piece.

Pilot Actuated Control Pilot For Operating Valve

US Patent:
2020015, May 21, 2020
Filed:
Nov 20, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/196318
Inventors:
- Wixom MI, US
Matthew Neff - Birmingham MI, US
Jeff Simmonds - Commerce Township MI, US
Eric Janssen - Howell MI, US
Joseph Richardson - Milford MI, US
International Classification:
F16K 31/40
Abstract:
A pulse valve assembly including a main valve and two pilot valves. The main valve includes a main valve body, main valve bore, and main valve spool. The main valve body includes an inlet port, an outlet port, and a pressure chamber at one end of the main valve bore. A first pilot valve selectively supplies pressurized fluid to the second pilot valve depending on the position of a poppet, which is controlled by a solenoid. A second pilot valve includes a spool that is driven by pressurized fluid from the first pilot valve. The second pilot valve selectively supplies pressurized fluid to the pressure chamber in the main valve causing the main valve spool to move towards the open or closed position. When the main valve spool is in the open position, pressurized fluid can flow through the main valve from the inlet port to the outlet port.
