Connector For Interfacing Intravascular Sensors To A Physiology Monitor

US Patent:
7274956, Sep 25, 2007
Filed:
Oct 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/691721
Inventors:
Eric V. Mott - Rancho Cordova CA, US
T. Sean Winterer - Placerville CA, US
Assignee:
Volcano Corporation - Rancho Cordova CA
International Classification:
H01R 13/62
H01R 24/04
A61B 5/04
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600372, 600300, 439304, 439668, 439909
Abstract:
A connector for connecting a flexible elongate member having a sensor mounted thereon to a physiology monitor includes a housing, an electrical contact member disposed within the housing, the electrical contact member having a plurality of axially spaced contact members, a cable having a plurality of conductors being electrically connected to respective axially spaced contact members, and a sleeve having an opening therein which communicates with an internal passage of the housing. The sleeve is moveable between an open position and a closed position. An interlock mechanism may also be provided to prevent the sleeve from moving from the open position to the closed position.

Apparatus And Method For Use Of Rfid Catheter Intelligence

US Patent:
7988633, Aug 2, 2011
Filed:
Oct 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/250159
Inventors:
Norman Hugh Hossack - Folsom CA, US
Stephen C. Davies - Folsom CA, US
Donald Mamayek - Mountain View CA, US
Richard Scott Huennekens - San Diego CA, US
Stephen Fry - El Dorado Hills CA, US
Eric V. Mott - Rancho Cordova CA, US
Peter Smith - Sacramento CA, US

Jon D. Klingensmith - El Dorado Hills CA, US
Richard Klosinski - Carmichael CA, US
Ed Oliver - Folsom CA, US
Masood Ahmed - Rocklin CA, US
Gerald Lea Litzza - Sacramento CA, US
Assignee:
Volcano Corporation - Rancho Cordova CA
International Classification:
A61B 8/14
A61B 8/00
US Classification:
600467, 600437, 600443
Abstract:
A method and system is provided for using backscattered data and known parameters to characterize vascular tissue. Specifically, methods and devices for identifying information about the imaging element used to gather the backscattered data are provided in order to permit an operation console having a plurality of Virtual Histology classification trees to select the appropriate VH classification tree for analyzing data gathered using that imaging element. In order to select the appropriate VH database for analyzing data from a specific imaging catheter, it is advantageous to know information regarding the function and performance of the catheter, such as the operating frequency of the catheter and whether it is a rotational or phased-array catheter. The present invention provides a device and method for storing this information on the imaging catheter and communicating the information to the operation console. In addition, information related to additional functions of the catheter may also be stored on the catheter and used to further optimize catheter performance and/or select the appropriate Virtual Histology classification tree for analyzing data from the catheter imaging element.

Connector For Interfacing Intravascular Sensors To A Physiology Monitor

US Patent:
2003016, Aug 28, 2003
Filed:
Feb 27, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/086143
Inventors:
Eric Mott - Rancho Cordova CA, US
T. Winterer - Placerville CA, US
International Classification:
A61B005/02
US Classification:
600/486000
Abstract:
A system for connecting a flexible elongate member having mounted thereon an electrically operable sensor to a physiology monitor is provided. The system includes a connector arranged on an end of a flexible cable for receiving an end of the flexible elongate member. The connector includes a housing having an internal passage therein and a contact member supported in the internal passage of the housing and electrically connected to the conductor in the flexible cable. The contact member is movable between an engaged position wherein the contact member is positioned to electrically contact the end of the flexible elongate member received in the connector and a disengaged position. A nosepiece which has an opening therein that communicates with the internal passage in the housing is supported on the housing for movement between an open position and a closed position. Movement of the nosepiece between the open and closed positions effects movement of the contact member between the disengaged and engaged positions such that when the nosepiece is in the open position the contact member is in the disengaged position and the end of the flexible elongate member is insertable in the connector. When the nosepiece is in the closed position, the contact member is in the engaged position. An interlock mechanism is also supported in the housing for movement between a locked position and an unlocked position. The interlock mechanism is operable to move to the unlocked position when the end of the flexible elongate member reaches a fully inserted position in the connector. In the locked position the interlock mechanism prevents movement of the nosepiece from the open to the closed position.
