Chroma Compensated Backlit Display

US Patent:
7339332, Mar 4, 2008
Filed:
May 24, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/853484
Inventors:
Brian D. Cull - Glendale AZ, US
Dennis M. Davey - Glendale AZ, US
Eric D. Ronning - Glendale AZ, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International, Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
H05B 37/00
US Classification:
315291, 315307, 315308
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for a backlit display with variable luminance and chrominance. The apparatus comprises i groups of LEDs of different colors and one or more sensors optically coupled to the LEDs. The combined light produced by the LEDs is directed to a transmissive liquid crystal display, preferably through a diffusing layer. The sensors monitor the output Sof each group of LEDs. Sfor each group of LEDs is multiplied by a chrominance determining parameter Kto obtain K*Swhich is then compared to a commanded luminance signal Lto obtain L−K*S, which difference is used to adjust the drive current to each group of LEDs to achieve Lwith the desired chrominance set by K. By changing Kand Lthe chrominance and luminescence of the display may be varied and aging effects compensated.

Light Emitting Diode Driving Apparatus With High Power And Wide Dimming Range

US Patent:
7342577, Mar 11, 2008
Filed:
Jan 25, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/043226
Inventors:
Mark A. Struebel - Desert Hills AZ, US
Eric D. Ronning - Glendale AZ, US
Dennis M. Davey - Glendale AZ, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International, Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
G09G 5/00
G09G 3/36
US Classification:
345204, 345102, 345 82, 345211, 345207
Abstract:
Apparatus are provided for driving an LED light source and controlling a light output of the light source over a wide luminance range in response to a luminance input. The apparatus includes: a voltage source having an output configured to couple with the light source, a first input configured to receive the luminance input, and a second input; a photodetector unit configured to logarithmically compress the luminance range and determine a voltage based on a luminance of the light source in the compressed range; a comparator having an input coupled to the photodetector unit and having an output; and, a signal converter having an input coupled to the output of the comparator and having an output coupled to the second input of the voltage source. The voltage source is configured to generate an output signal at the output of the voltage source. The output signal has a frequency and a pulse width based on the luminance input.

Turn Signal Apparatus With Magnetic Sensor Or Compass And Auto-Cancel

US Patent:
7783399, Aug 24, 2010
Filed:
Dec 17, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/016069
Inventors:
Esli Kevin Young - Peoria AZ, US
Eric D. Ronning - Glendale AZ, US
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
701 36, 340475, 340476
Abstract:
A turn signal apparatus includes a heading indicator which provides a heading signal and a control circuit which provides a turn direction output signal. The turn direction output signal is chosen to indicate a turn direction in response to the heading signal and a corresponding turn direction input signal. The turn direction can be for a right turn, a left turn, or a neutral turn. A left or right turn indication can be changed to a neutral turn indication in response to the heading signal.

Electro-Hydraulic Servo Valve Control System

US Patent:
2016029, Oct 13, 2016
Filed:
Apr 10, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/683613
Inventors:
- Charlotte NC, US
Eric Duane Ronning - Glendale AZ, US
International Classification:
G05D 7/06
G05B 15/02
Abstract:
A control system includes an electro-hydraulic servo valve configured to move about a plurality of positions in response to receiving an analog bi-polar current signal. An electronic field programmable gate array (FPGA) generates first and second digital pulse width modulation (PWM) signals according to an adjustable duty cycle. An electronic bridge circuit is in electrical communication with the FPGA to convert the first and second digital PWM signals into the bi-polar current signal. An electronic current sensing circuit is in electrical communication with the bridge circuit, the current sensing circuit configured to generate a digital feedback signal indicating an average current level of the bi-polar signal. The FPGA controls the duty cycle based on at least the average current level indicated by the digital feedback signal.
