Techniques For Reading Two Dimensional Code, Including Maxicode

US Patent:
6340119, Jan 22, 2002
Filed:
Mar 26, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/816173
Inventors:
Duanfeng He - Farmingville NY
Kevin Hunter - Fort Myers FL
Eugene Joseph - Coram NY
Assignee:
Symbol Technologies, Inc. - Holtsville NY
International Classification:
G06K 1906
US Classification:
235494, 235454
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to techniques for determining the presence, orientation and location of features in an image of a two dimensional optical code. The techniques are adapted for use in mapping data in an image pixel plane with grid locations in a grid-based two dimensional code to account for size, rotation, tilt, warping and distortion of the code symbol. Where such a code is a MaxiCode, techniques are disclosed for determining the presence and location of the MaxiCode bulls-eye, orientation modules, primary data modules and secondary data modules.

Autodiscrimination And Line Drawing Techniques For Code Readers

US Patent:
6405925, Jun 18, 2002
Filed:
Mar 16, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/809216
Inventors:
Duanfeng He - Farmingville NY
Eugene Joseph - Coram NY
Joseph Cai - Holbrook NY
Assignee:
Symbol Technologies, Inc. - Holtsville NY
International Classification:
G06K 922
US Classification:
23546225, 235454, 23546207
Abstract:
Optical image readers have a two-dimensional image sensor and an auto-discrimination function. The auto-discrimination function identifies optical codes by type for pixel clusters and, in some cases, tilt angle and start/stop coordinates. The clustered pixel data is passed to an appropriate decoder identified by the auto-discrimination function based upon a likelihood that the cluster contains an optical code of a particular type. Line drawing technique provide for adequate sampling of the clustered pixel data code based on the tilt angle of the code relative to an image sensor array.

Rotating Plate Carrier For Changing Focal Distance Of Optical Code Imager

US Patent:
6726105, Apr 27, 2004

Miniature Imager

US Patent:
6811085, Nov 2, 2004
Filed:
Apr 9, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/118562
Inventors:
Bradley Carlson - Northport NY
Duanfeng He - Farmingville NY
Joseph Katz - Stoney Brook NY
Mark Krichever - Hauppauge NY
Mehul Patel - Fort Salonga NY
David Tsi Shi - Stony Brook NY
Thomas D. Bianculli - East Northport NY
Eugene Joseph - Coram NY
Assignee:
Symbol Technologies, Inc. - Holtsville NY
International Classification:
G06K 714
US Classification:
235454, 23546211
Abstract:
A miniature imager for reading target images. The optical and electrical systems of the miniature imager are optimized to reduce one or more dimensions or the volume of the imager. In accordance with one embodiment the pixel pitch and focal length are decreased for that of a larger imager to maintain a comparable field of view for each pixel. The decreased pixel pitch allows the area of the aperture and the instantaneous field of view of the pixel to remain constant while decreasing the overall size of the imager. In other embodiments apparatus and techniques reduce and/or eliminate the need for illumination of a target by the imager thereby reducing the overall power consumed by the imager and/or its overall size. The imager has an increased working range.
