Electron Gun For A Color Picture Tube

US Patent:
5754014, May 19, 1998
Filed:
Nov 30, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/346624
Inventors:
Kyung-ho Kim - Taeku, KR
Francis Joseph Campbell - Yardley PA
Assignee:
Orion Electric Co., Ltd. - Kyungsangbuk-Do
International Classification:
H01J 2952
US Classification:
3153821
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an improved electron gun for a color picture tube. The present gun having a triple electrode part, a prefocusing lens part for preliminarily focusing and accelerating the electron beam from the triple electrode part, and a main lens part for finally focusing and accelerating the beam from the prefocusing lens part, is characterized in that the prefocusing lens part comprises a plurality of focusing lenses for forminig at last one quadrapole lens, and two different focusing voltages each of which being dynamically changed synchronized with the deflection signal, are selectively applied to each focusing electrode. Thus, a uniform beam section can be obtained all over the screen.

Electron Gun For A Color Picture Tube

US Patent:
5763991, Jun 9, 1998
Filed:
Nov 30, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/346882
Inventors:
Hyo-jong Yoon - Taeku, KR
Francis Joseph Campbell - Yardley PA
Assignee:
Orion Electric Co. - Kyungsangbok-do
International Classification:
H01J 2950
US Classification:
313412
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an improved electron gun for a color picture tube including a main lens having a first rim electrode having a beam passing plane with holes in an incident side of the electron beam and a second rim electrode facing the first rim electrode and having a beam passing plane with holes in a departing side of the beam. A focusing electrode having a beam passing plane with holes in departing side of the beam for forming compensating astigmatism quadrupole lenses in conjunction with the first rim electrode to compensate for the astigmatism of the main lens is positioned adjacent to the first rim electrode of the main lens. Astigmatism formed between the first and second rim electrode of the main lens electrodes can be reduced by the compensating astigmatism of the quadrupole lenses.

Drumstick Balanced For Juggling

US Patent:
5218152, Jun 8, 1993
Filed:
Jun 12, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/714274
Inventors:
Francis W. Campbell - Levittown PA
William R. Sands - Newtown PA
International Classification:
G10D 1300
US Classification:
844224
Abstract:
In a first embodiment, a drumstick, balanced for juggling, exhibits a center of mass in the range of 58% to 62% of the distance along its length from the butt end. It is herein recognized that such a drumstick is suitable for both juggling and drumming, and supports a drumming performance which includes a juggling portion. In second and third embodiments, a drum mallet and a keyboard mallet, each of which is balanced for juggling, exhibits a center of mass in the range of 58% to 62% along the shaft from the butt end.

Electron Gun With A Multi-Element Electron Lens

US Patent:
3932786, Jan 13, 1976
Filed:
Nov 29, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/528400
Inventors:
Francis Joseph Campbell - Yardley PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H01T 2929
H01J 2982
US Classification:
315 3
Abstract:
The disclosed apparatus is a multiple beam electron gun having a wide focusing lens gap. The lens gap has a plurality of metal elements, spaced therein, each successive element of which has a successively greater voltage applied to it. The application of the voltages creates an electrostatic field which focuses a plurality of beams generated by the gun.

Saddle-Toroid Deflection Winding For Low Loss And/Or Reduced Conductor Length

US Patent:
4228413, Oct 14, 1980
Filed:
Dec 11, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/968417
Inventors:
Francis J. Campbell - Yardley PA
William H. Barkow - Pennsauken NJ
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H01F 500
US Classification:
335213
Abstract:
A deflection yoke for deflecting the electron beam of a kinescope includes conductors, portions of which are saddle-wound and portions of which are toroidally wound for reducing the length of conductor required for deflection, for reducing losses due to leakage fields, or both.

In-Line Type Electron Gun For A Color Picture Tube

US Patent:
5635792, Jun 3, 1997
Filed:
Dec 30, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/366673
Inventors:
Sung-youb Jung - Kyungsangbuk-do, KR
Francis J. Campbell - Yardley PA
Assignee:
Orion Electric Co. Ltd. - Gumi
International Classification:
H01J 2951
H01J 2950
US Classification:
313412
Abstract:
In a conventional construction of an electron gun with quadrupole lenses, a grid part with elongated apertures all arranged in the same direction cannot be easily secured to alignment mandrels of circular cross section. As a result, grid movement during assembly can cause a misalignment that deteriorates the tube resolution. The present invention includes arranging circular and elongated apertures in the same grid part, and also alternately arranging circular and elongated apertures in adjacent grid parts, so as to secure the grid parts to the mandrels and automatically maintain the alignment during gun assembly. The aperture combinations described herein produce electron lens astigmatism of approximately the same strength and sign for each beam of an in-line gun.
