Reduction Of Geomagnetically Induced Currents

US Patent:
2018014, May 24, 2018
Filed:
Apr 12, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/568439
Inventors:
- New York NY, US
Francisco DE LEON - Bogota NJ, US
International Classification:
H02H 7/22
H02H 1/00
H02H 9/00
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatuses are disclosed for reducing geomagnetically-induced currents. The method includes connecting a plurality of switching devices at a neutral grounding connection point of at least one transformer bank. In a system having two terminals, the method includes grounding one transformer bank through a switch so as to reduce geomagnetically induced current. In a system having more than two terminals, the method includes grounding transformer banks through multiple switches, where the reduction is performed independently for each transformer bank. The method further involves determining a switching frequency and a duty cycle based on an evaluation of factors including effectiveness and fault current detection.

Three-Phase Inverter With A Repositioned Choke

US Patent:
2015021, Jul 30, 2015
Filed:
Jan 24, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/163328
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Dazhong Gu - Brooklyn NY, US
Dariusz Czarkowski - South Setauket NY, US
Francisco de Leon - Ridgewood NJ, US
Kamiar J. Karimi - Kirkland WA, US
Shengyi Liu - Sammamish WA, US
Assignee:
THE BOEING COMPANY - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H02M 1/14
H02M 7/217
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for converting direct current into alternating current. The direct current is converted into a number of alternating currents using a switch system. The number of alternating currents is filtered using a set of inductors and a set of capacitors. Higher-frequency electromagnetic interference is blocked using a choke located between the set of inductors and the set of capacitors.

Electrostatic Shielding Of Transformers

US Patent:
2015002, Jan 29, 2015
Filed:
Jul 22, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/338048
Inventors:
- New York NY, US
Francisco De Leon - New York NY, US
International Classification:
H01F 27/28
H01F 27/30
H01F 27/245
US Classification:
336 84 C, 29606

In one example, the common electromagnetic interference filter comprises a localized filter stage configured to receive DC power from the DC power source, and a distributed filter stage configured to receive DC power from the localized filter stage. The distributed filter stage includes a first set of common mode capacitors electrically connected to and physically proximate input power lines of the first interleaved power supply, and a second set of common mode capacitors electrically connected to and physically proximate input power lines of the second interleaved power supply.

Apparatus And Method For Controlling Circulating Current In An Inverter System

US Patent:
2014021, Jul 31, 2014
Filed:
Jan 29, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/752813
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Dazhong Gu - Brooklyn NY, US
Dariusz Czarkowski - S. Setauket NY, US
Francisco de Leon - Ridgewood NJ, US
Kamiar Karimi - Brooklyn NY, US
Shengyi Liu - Sammamish WA, US
International Classification:
H02M 1/12
US Classification:
363 41
Abstract:
A power conversion system is disclosed that provides multiphase power, including phase voltages for each phase of the multiphase power. The system comprises a plurality of inverters that generate PWM output voltages based on PWM control signals. A plurality of inductive components is configured to receive the PWM output voltages to generate the phase voltages. The PWM output voltages cause circulating current flows through the inductive components. A voltage controller is employed that is responsive to the phase voltages to generate voltage modulation signals corresponding to the phase voltages. A plurality of current sharing channels are respectively associated with each of the plurality of inductive components and are configured generate current sharing modulation signals in response to the circulating current flows. The PWM control signals are generated based on modulation signals obtained by combining the current sharing modulation signals and voltage modulation signals.
