Shutter Lock For Specialized Lighting Fixtures

US Patent:
7108401, Sep 19, 2006
Filed:
Feb 20, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/783503
Inventors:
Kenneth M. Kane - Trumbull CT, US
Frank Cogliano - Suffern NY, US
Assignee:
Lighting Services, Inc. - Stony Point NY
International Classification:
F21V 17/02
US Classification:
362321, 362281, 362283, 362322, 362323
Abstract:
A specialized lighting fixture, such as a framing projector provided with a plurality of adjustable framing shutters, is modified to incorporate a pair of locking rings, surrounding the body of the lighting fixture and positioned on opposite sides of outwardly projecting portions of the framing shutters. After initial adjustment of the framing shutters has been completed, the locking rings are tightly compressed together, as by locking screws positioned between adjacent pairs of framing shutters, to lock the shutters in position against unintended dislodgment. For lighting fixtures of non-uniform shape, the locking rings may be made in two parts, preferably hinged together, which are secured together after being positioned on the housing of the lighting fixture. The locking rings are particularly adapted for retrofit installation on lighting fixtures of existing design.

Recessed Light Housing With A Rotatable Aperture

US Patent:
7832889, Nov 16, 2010
Filed:
Sep 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/524640
Inventors:
Frank Cogliano - New Windsor NY, US
Assignee:
USAI LLC - New Windsor NY
International Classification:
F21S 8/00
F21V 15/00
US Classification:
362147, 362269, 362277, 362364, 362375
Abstract:
A recessed light assembly having an illumination element and having an enclosure attachable to a support structure of a dwelling has a rotating aperture plate rotatably mounted to a wall of the enclosure. The rotating aperture plate has an illumination aperture disposed over an opening in the wall of the enclosure and the recessed light assembly has adjustable fasteners, accessible from an exterior of the recessed light assembly, which adjustable fasteners selectively permit and prevent rotation of the rotating aperture plate relative to the enclosure allowing a user to adjust the rotational alignment of the illumination aperture relative to the enclosure of an installed light assembly without disengaging an attached assembly from the support structure. The illumination element may be fixed relative to the rotating aperture plate or may be fixed relative to the enclosure. The rotating aperture plate and the enclosure may have rotational alignment reference marks and a rotational alignment indicator which serve to indicate a present rotational alignment of the aperture plate relative to the enclosure.

Hot Aimable Lamp Assembly With Memory For Adjustable Recessed Light

US Patent:
8215805, Jul 10, 2012
Filed:
May 22, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/471337
Inventors:
Frank Cogliano - New Windsor NY, US
Stanley Edward Mayer - Middletown NY, US
Patrick Fuchs - Hyde Park NY, US
Christopher William McQuillan - Marlton NJ, US
Assignee:
USAI, LLC - New Windsor NY
International Classification:
F21V 17/02
US Classification:
362366, 362364, 362365
Abstract:
A recessed light fixture has vertical tilt and horizontal rotation adjustments recessed radially outwardly from a trim aperture defining ring for a cleaner aspect of the lamp aperture. A lamp holder is reachable through the trim aperture for manually returning the lamp holder from a tilted position to a vertical position and is releasable downward from the fixture for relamping in response to manual pulling force. A mechanical memory returns the lamp holder to the initial tilted position upon reinsertion of the lamp holder and release of the manual pulling force. The lamp fixture can be miniaturized to a size of about 2. 5 inches in diameter and sized to fit in a ceiling cutout of about 3. 5 inches in diameter.

High Output Micro Luminary

US Patent:
2022031, Oct 6, 2022
Filed:
Jun 15, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/841015
Inventors:
- New Windsor NY, US
Oriana J. Starr - New Paltz NY, US
Howard D. Delano - Kingston NY, US
Frank Cogliano - Pomona NY, US
International Classification:
F21V 19/04
F21S 8/02
F21V 29/71
Abstract:
A recessed light fixture has a heat sink and a removable light engine assembly. A thermally conductive base of the light engine assembly has an LED and has a thermal interface adapted for thermal coupling to a thermal interface of the heat sink. A mechanical connector in the enclosure can connect the base of the light engine assembly to the heat sink and couple the thermal interfaces of the light engine assembly and heat sink. The base of the light engine assembly is insertable through an opening in the ceiling aligned and can be urged into connected and disconnected states, from within the room, with a minimal clearance between the opening in the ceiling and the base, whereby the light engine assembly can be replaced or serviced from within the room without disturbing the ceiling and without the use of a large diameter trim.

Lighting Fixture With Multiple Configurations For Different Junction Box Configurations

US Patent:
2020019, Jun 18, 2020
Filed:
Feb 10, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/786442
Inventors:
Jaclyn Behnke - Highland NY, US
Frank Cogliano - Pomona NY, US
International Classification:
F21V 21/02
H02G 3/20
F21S 8/00
F21S 8/06
F21V 17/00
F21S 8/04
Abstract:
A light fixture having an upper and lower housing, and a mounting bracket adapted to mount to a junction box. The light fixture has a relatively short mounting bracket for surface mount configurations, and a relatively long mounting bracket for recess mount configurations, and a difference in the height of the long and short mounting brackets is equal to the height of the junction box. In the surface-mount and recess-mount configurations a circumferential edge of the upper housing abuts the mounting surface so the lighting fixture has the same external appearance and size in both configurations. The light fixture also has a pendant mode wherein the upper housing is suspended from the junction box by an elongated support. An enclosure for the junction box has a plurality of cut-outs and covers to accommodate various configurations of surface mounted conduit.
