Disposable Compress

US Patent:
2003019, Oct 16, 2003
Filed:
Apr 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/120717
Inventors:
Sabeto DiRoma - Oakdale CT, US
Frank Recchia - New Haven CT, US
International Classification:
A61F007/00
US Classification:
607/114000
Abstract:
A disposable cold pack comprising a durable flexible container having an interior region, a breakable envelope contained within the interior region, a predetermined amount of liquid contained within the envelope wherein the liquid consists of water, and solid materials contained within the interior region. The solid materials consist of a predetermined amount of urea and a predetermined amount of potassium chloride. When the envelope is broken so as to release water into the interior region, the water dissolves a substantial amount of the solid materials thereby producing an endothermic reaction which cools the water.

Method And Apparatus For Dissolving Urea

US Patent:
2004014, Aug 5, 2004
Filed:
Dec 30, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/749072
Inventors:
Sabeto DiRoma - Oakdale CT, US
Robert Roach - East Greenwich RI, US
Frank Recchia - New Haven CT, US
International Classification:
C05C009/00
B01D011/02
US Classification:
071/028000, 071/064060, 422/261000, 422/269000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dissolving urea. In one embodiment, the method comprises the steps of providing a mixing container, depositing a predetermined amount of urea into the mixing container, and depositing a predetermined amount of water into the mixing chamber to achieve a predetermined urea/water concentration. In a preferred embodiment, the predetermined urea/water concentration is about 50/50 wt/wt. The method further comprises the steps of mixing the urea and water to form a mixture, allowing the mixture to stand until the temperature of the mixture reaches a predetermined temperature, and thereafter, resuming mixing of the mixture until the urea completely dissolves in the water.

Process For Making A Relief Printing Plate

US Patent:
3951657, Apr 20, 1976
Filed:
Jul 16, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/596521
Inventors:
Frank P. Recchia - New Haven CT
Tilak M. Shah - North Haven CT
Assignee:
The Upjohn Company - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
G03C 500
G03C 168
G03C 702
G03C 800
US Classification:
96 351
Abstract:
A photopolymerizable element for the preparation of relief printing plates. The element comprises an addition polymerizable monomer (e. g. trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate), a free radical initiator for polymerizing the monomer (e. g. benzophenone) and a polyester-based polyurethane binding agent which is the reaction product of 4,4'-methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate), a polycaprolactone diol having a molecular weight in the range of 1,000 to 2,500, and a mixture of at least two aliphatic diol extenders. Optionally the photopolymerizable element is provided with a support layer such as a polyester film or paper. Processes for the preparation of relief printing plates from said elements are also disclosed.

Blends Of Copolyimides With Copolyamideimides

US Patent:
4225686, Sep 30, 1980
Filed:
Jul 19, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/058798
Inventors:
Kemal B. Onder - North Haven CT
Frank P. Recchia - New Haven CT
Assignee:
The Upjohn Company - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
C08L 7908
US Classification:
525419
Abstract:
Novel polymer blends are disclosed comprising about 10 to 95 percent by weight of a copolyimide (A) prepared from benzophenone-3,3',4,4'-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and a mixture of 4,4'-methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) and toluene diisocyanate (2,4- or 2,6-isomer or mixtures thereof) with the isocyanates used in a molar percent ratio from about 10/90 to 30/70 respectively; and from about 90 to 5 percent by weight of a copolyamideimide (B) prepared from 4,4'-methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) and a mixture of trimellitic anhydride and isophthalic acid with the acid components used in a molar percent ratio from about 70/30 to 90/10 respectively. The novel blends may be used in the form of their dry blend or in solution and the films produced therefrom are characterized by improved elongation and tear strength values over those for the copolyimide (A) alone. Furthermore, the softening point of the blends is increased over the copolyamideimide alone.

High Solids Ethylene Acrylic Acid Aqueous Dispersions And Methods Of Producing Same

US Patent:
5591806, Jan 7, 1997
Filed:
Jun 7, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/479186
Inventors:
Frank P. Recchia - New Haven CT
Wilson M. Ferrell - Petersburg VA
W. Maclin Ferrell - Petersburg VA
Assignee:
Dominion Chemical Company - Petersburg VA
International Classification:
C08C 1922
US Classification:
525369
Abstract:
A uniquely treated bead of ethylene acrylic acid (EAA) capable of forming a high solids aqueous dispersion in excess of 38% solids wherein the EAA may be prepared by either batch or continuous processes wherein the EAA is substantially fully reacted with ammonia, sodium or potassium in little or substantial absence of water, followed by a separate aqueous dispersion step, resulting in a unique and quick-drying dispersion material highly useful in coating, adhesive, laminating, ink and similar processes, and wherein operating expense and environmental concerns are at a minimum as a consequence thereof. The treated EAA may be prepared in a substantially dry to merely moist state for incorporation into an aqueous dispersion with high percentages of EAA having either higher or lower molecular weight with low viscosities as compared to heretofore.
