A pool rack comprising an equilateral triangular-shaped frame having upstanding walls and a flange extending outwardly from the top of the frame for facilitating lifting the rack from around a group of pool balls. The rear wall of the rack, located directly opposite the apex formed by two side walls of the rack, comprises leaf-type springs molded as an integral part of the frame. The frame, including the springs is made of a resilient high-memory material. A push buttons is inserted through the springs and attaches to a push bar positioned along the rear wall. The push bar is urged against the balls by manual operation of the push buttons and is biased back toward the rear wall by the springs.

The invention includes: a rotatably mounted reel for retaining an elongate extension member adapted to be connected to the person to be let down; a brake for reducing the rate of rotation of the reel, the brake including a brake drum and a pair of brake shoes mounted to rotate with the reel; a governor including a pair of radially inwardly articulated flyweights extending between the brake shoes, the articulation permitting the flyweights to be displaced radially outwardly as the rate of rotation of the brake shoes and the reel increase, to displace the brake shoes radially outwardly whereby the pressure of the brake shoes against the brake drum and the resulting brake is increased as the rate of rotation of the reel increases; and a crank mounted to the apparatus for permitting the reel to be rewound onto the reel.

A hinge connection for eyeglasses connects a lens frame to a temple piece with a threaded pin which does not loosen or fall out of the hinge even after repeated hinging movement of the temple piece. The hinge has a bore which is lined with an insert made of a material having cold flow characteristics. The liner has an untapped bore with a diameter slightly smaller than the major diameter of the pin. The pin has interrupted ferrule threads. When the pin is pushed into the bore of the liner, cold flow reformation of the bore locks the pin in place. The pin can be removed from the liner when desired by rotating the pin to cause its threads to form complementary helical thread in the bore wall and thereby thread its way out of the liner.

A manual device for depositing cookie dough onto baking sheets includes a unitary plastic body having two connected arms. The first arm terminates in a flat spatula used for scooping up and temporarily retaining portions of cookie dough. The second arm terminates in two parallel and offset fingers connected together at each end to form a ram with a slot extending therethrough. The flat spatula and slotted ram are constructed such that the spatula fits through the slot. The ram is passed over the spatula face to clear it of the cookie dough portion.

A tire traction device for vehicle tires includes a pair of rope-like side cord members for circumferential placement on the sidewalls of a tire, and a series of wire rope cross cords which interconnect the side cords and extend across the tire tread. The cross cords are connected to the side cords at knotted connections, and a ferrule is attached to the ends of each cross cord outside of each knotted connection to prevent the cross cords from disconnecting from the side cords. Coil spring rollers are supported on the cross cords to provide additional traction. Each cross cord also supports a pair of tubular spacers located inside and adjacent the knotted connections to maintain the rollers in the center of the cross cord. One end of each side cord is knotted into a series of male connector knots while the opposite end of each side cord is knotted into a female loop knot for selective interengagement with one of the male connector knots to join the opposite ends together about a tire. The male connector knots extend between at least one pair of cross cords at the one end of the side cords to enable adjustment of the device to length simply by cutting the side cords to length from the one end and removing the necessary number of cross cords adjacent the one end.

A one-piece elastic fastener includes a pair of spaced elastic, generally dish-shaped head members adapted to fit on opposite sides of pieces of material to be joined. The head members each have a rim and are disposed concavely inwardly with their rims facing each other. An elastic shank member joins the head members and is adapted to pass through an opening in the pieces of material. In one embodiment an elongated loop member is centrally attached to one of the head members and is adapted to pull it through an opening in the pieces of material to be joined. In another embodiment a boss is positioned on one of the head members and a hook is used to pull it through the opening.
